Complete and utter garbage from Thiem. Luckily for him, he faced an opponent today, that embodies the word „mug“ better than anyone I‘ve ever seen on a tennis court.

Now he has 1 day to rethink his attitude on court, otherwise he is gonna be sent packing by Cuevas in the blink of an eye.

Would be 3-0, he was choking the 2n set TB too, but Dominic helped. Bublik threw him of the rythm completely in the 4th, thaz hold on 4-1 was crucial. Watching a choke like this is so disgusting, from a neutral PoV.

Dominic didn't send a good message today to his next opponents.

Choke of the tournament by far, also horrible quality match, Thiem was going to lose against those pathetic volleys delivered by Bublik. Tennis is the real loser here. Dominic is having some mental issues, he'll be probably sent out by the 1st decent claycourter he meets, his actual game level is leading him into nothing.

Judging by the scoreline not the best match by Dominic - I was able to watch it only from the middle of the 4th set.

Although the opponent was unorthodox and wasn't giving Dominic much rhythm he should have still won much easier.

Hopefully Dominic improves for the next round because Cuevas might be a dangerous opponent.

Come on!

Only watched set 4 where Bublik was closer to the double break than to getting broken himself, till he went full clown mode. Bublik is talented but with his game on clay and his mentality, there is no way Thiem should lose almost two sets to him.

Nightmare today. Quite an escape, Bublik very nearly took it to 5 today.

Thiem isn't playing any worse than how he has played for most of the year so far, he just faced two opponents who play the type of tennis that matches up well with his. We all know how match-up prone he is, his draw might not seem bad to some but for HIM it's as bad as it gets. The down side is most guys left in his quarter can potentially take him out, the upside is these type of matches might actually play himself into form, IF he survives.

Thiem has to be very happy he got through this in 4, considering he was 2:5 and set points down. It seems like he's lost it a bit after that loss to Djokovic at Madrid. Exepcting another tough one against Cuevas, who might be the ideal opponent against whom to regroup, though.

Bublik is a weird dude, why wasn't he playing European clay tourneys, and chose to play Mexican Challangers on HC instead?
cause his game is pretty bad on clay, he can't really move in a decent way on this surface, also he had a good run on HC
there, which gave him some nice points in ATP ranking

Bublik went into full Kyrgios mode in terms of unpredictability, and he's just as talented. So can't really fault Thiem too much, because Bublik would have given anybody fits. I think Thiem will perform much better against a more conventional opponent like Cuevas.

Btw, it's funny that Thiem still hasn't played a single 5 set match in RG. He "deserved" one in both of his matches so far.

Thiem struggling with an opponent who gives him no rhythm, no sense of clarity and no sense period. A shocker.
