Solid but nothing to write home about... federer had one focused return game in every set where he actually read the serves well and rallied like a real tennis player. Otte‘s ballbashing worked better than expected especially at the beginning of the first and of the third

Them breaks at the end of each set :eek:h:
Solid, but Federer will need to show more against better opponents. Though looking at the draw, he can go to QF easily playing at this level.

Who the hell are these random ass mugs the big3 have been playing with the first 2 rounds. It's absurd how many softballs these guys get thrown to ease into the big matches. Anyway, happy for Rogie, his first real challenge will maybe be DIego in R4 (though he can handle that guy), QF Wawrinka/Stefanos-Roger sounds fun.

Clinical from Nose but still going to have to raise his level at some point especially in the return game. He caught a break getting Ruud in 3R instead of Berretini and could potentially have a virtual walkover against Mahut or Mayer in the R16.

Ruud next round is a potential banana skin. I'll catch the highlights later, but straight sets, job done.

They’re mugs because the Big 3 curbstomp them.

Nice volley to finish the match. Federer playing at 40-50% was enough. I feel like he's working on his game with grass in the back of his mind.

Credit to Otte. He tried to disrupt the opponent and that's more than other players have shown so far against top guys.

Fans in Chatrier didn't get to see him for long.
Fed took 96 minutes to finish the match.

No, he wants to win his second RG and be the first in the Open Era to win the DCGS, something everyone thought only Dull and Faker had a chance at. Why would you imply that he doesn’t want this title?

This level of play won’t cut it though. Too many easy forehands missed and pretty mediocre on return

Ya, Otte did try his best to take control of the rallies. Some decent ballbashing. In the end though as expected, he didn't quite have what it takes.

As for Federer, well it's just good for him not to drop any sets at this stage of the tournament. He needs to preserve energy.

This is the type of match Federer. Quick and comfortable enough to save up energy.

Pretty clutch stuff tbh. 3/4 bps. While Otte was 0/4. Not a fan of Otte’s overly aggressive style, seems like an all or nothing player but gotta give him credit to try to take the game away from Federer. Besides it’s better for Federer to play this kind of player than grinders who may suck the life out of him and drain him with endless rallies.

While not a high quality match, Federer did provide at least a few highlight reel shots, and Otte did his best to make it competitive and interesting (though I think Federer has at least another gear that he kept in reserve). Another very efficient match for Fed that didn't tax him at all physically- even quicker than the 1st round match. Nice to see the fans at packed Philippe-Chatrier chant Rogers name and give him a standing ovation.

Fedal got 3 challenger players outside top 100 and Sonego, ranked 74. Novak got Hubert Hurkasz in R1, young top 50 player who's taken a couple of serious scalps this year. Next for Novak is Laaksonen, ranked 104. LL who got in because Sam Querrey withdrew. So, at least keep Novak out of your softball theory, k? :wink2:

For r1 yes, but r2 is no different. Another LL who got an even bigger mug in R1
