Gut-wrenching contest. Excellent drama, ridiculous choking and safe CC/slicebotting interpersed with massive Thiem shots, great gets on both sides and great Schwarrtzy droppers. Every set could have been won by the other player. Early on, Thiem kept getting into Diego's service games, but failed to create another break and plonked the breaker; Schwartzman had Thiem on the ropes in each of the last three sets but could never finish - massive choke in the second set but Domi came up with some epic stuff in the last two sets alright, particularly when Schwartz had 40-0 to take it to a fifth set, but still lost the tiebreak. Unfortunately, Thiem finally succumbed in the end, losing 14 of the last 17 points, the last two to netted dropshots. Schwartzman will now have two full days to recover, so he should be fairly fresh to likely face The Nadal in the semifinals.

What a match. Diego clearly better, winning the first set and then having a chance to take a 2-0 set lead but started to be extremely unclutch, to put it mildly. Thiem bounced back, taking the 2nd set and then we have more of the same in the third, Diego wasting his chances, Thiem then hitting some amazing winners when it mattered.
Looked as if Diego was down the rabbit hole after losing the third, and that he was going to get punished for wasting his chances. A rollercoaster 4th set was opened by Thiem breaking and Diego breaking back, then serving to take the set but losing from 5-4, 40-0, and then somehow winning it in the TB.

Thiem looked fatigued in the 5th and Diego finally put an end to the match lasting over 5 hours. Diego should've closet it out in 3 or 4 sets... but on the other hand, Thiem had the chance to punish the Argentine for wasting his chances. Diego going to be tired for Rafa.

Sa how Thiem gifted this one.

Schwartzman has no business being in a SF mugging out a 5+ hr match against 60% Thiem being undaring and super chokey. Very ugly to see him with a semifinal now.

Both players could have won the first 4 sets, but Thiem should have first.

Thiem ran out of gas at the end of this 5+ hour affair. Diego had leads in all the sets iirc

5 sets vs Gaston plus another 5 vs Diego after the epic USO run, just too much in the end

Diego in the form of his life, played amazing. If he can recover, he can even beat Nadal or Sinner imo

Thiem can still win RG at some point in the future

5hr 10 minute long match roflmao. Nadal's mouth is salivating for the corpse he'll devour next.

Happy for Diego making a major semi. Great match. In the end Thiem was too tired. Bailed out in that last game with poor errors.

Final worthy contest. Both should be proud of their efforts. Domi ran out of gas in the 5th but the constant fight by Diego was admirable, despite lacking conventional easy power that Thiem can generate, he sure knows how to construct and win points.

First slam SF and well deserved.

A Nadal fan scared little Diego will make Rafa work for a final here?
