How do you put aside so many slams and why? You could ask all slams aside, is Fognini a better player than Federer just as well.

First of all, that's a pretty big "aside"! ;)

But to take the numbers:

Rafa Nadal (subtracting RG) - 5 Grand Slam titles, 1 Olympic gold medal, 26 M1000s, 54 ATP titles overall. Weeks at #1: 133 and counting
Novak Djokovic - 6 Grand Slam titles, 1 Olympic bronze medal, 18 M1000s, 43 ATP titles overall. Weeks at #1: 101.

I say Rafa still has the better career, myself.

This would get even starker if we stripped out the Grand Slams on both guys' favourite surface (clay for Rafa, hardcourt for Novak). Novak only has 1 slam off his favourite surface.

No, 21 masters 1000 to 0, 6 YEC to 0,...
Well, we could take those aside too  Makes as much sense as removing slams.

Valid question but the answer is still no, as someone already pointed out with actual stats.

6 Grand Slams vs 5 Grand Slams.

But it's a silly question, RG it's also a Slam.

this. pretty incredible that Nadal even without his best slam is still better resume wise than his closest generational competition

imagine taking away Djokovic's Australian Open credentials, Murray would have practically as good accomplishments

I think it's a bit unfair to take out only one of the players favorite surface.

I think if we take FO out for Nadal, AO should be taken out for Djoko.
So it would be 5-2 Nadal.

Nadal still ahead, which seems right.

If you take out Wimbledon for Fed he still has 10, which also seems about right.

Isn't it interesting how when you take out these players best slam, the order of their greatness remains the same. :p

Djoker : dominates indoor courts, outdoor hardcourts, beat nadal on clay, choked in 2 slams against nadal,
Had mostly semi finals with nadal in slams, especially clay and Roland garros
Only in the us open did nadal get djoker-less semi finals
Nadal lost early at Wimbledon, and would've lost to djoker since 2009.

Nadal : beat a surrendering 20 year old djoker on clay.
He couldn't cope when rain came in 2012 French open, then djoker threw unforced errors everywhere.
Lucked out after Djoker distracted himself and choked away 2013 French open and us open with Djoker having dozens of break points

Had Best Australian open with a lead, still lost a 5 setter in another final.

Djoker had many win streaks, not just in Mickey Mouse clay events, and took revenge on nadal & federer in the head to head records. Played much fewer tournaments and will have winning record against fedal, despite his younger age.

He saved match points against slam winners,
And won with 2-5 deficits in final sets. Nadal only saved match points against federer.

Troll reply. Mods delete post and ban poster.

As for the thread Nadal isn't much without clay. Not even close to being in the GOAT debate.
True. Hes always been a clay court specialist. There isnt anything wrong with this term. But he got competitive ouside clay also. Thats why Federer only has 17-302.

If Rafa was just another Clay mug that number would be 20-350. And thats putting it mildly.

As for this post you cant take away one stenght and compare to another. Why not take MC also just to level out ATPM1000?
