A gureling four-hour contest. Rublev struggled to hit through Fucs, who wisely thwarted him with slices, and since neither player was great with dropshots or volleys (though Marton made a few great droppers but rarely so), the bulk of play consisted of attrition rallies as Rublev sought to overpower while Fucs worked to outlast, but got wobbly every time he led, like Querrey. Meanwhile, Rublev's mental strength has been very impressive recently. Today, he trailed 2-5 in the second set, 1-3 in the third and was down *4-5 0-40 in the fourth, yet managed to win all those sets. Tsitsipas looks to be the clear favourite in QF but you never know with the youngsters.

Fucsovics only has himself to blame, spurned chance after chance after chance with poor errors or decision making; this must hurt for him.

Very close match, in the 2nd set it looked like Marton had everything under control, he was dominating the rallies and Rublev had to work hard just to not go 2 breaks down. Fucsovics lost his mind when he served for the 2nd set and had 30-0, his hand was shaking and eventually lost the set. In the 3rd, it was again Fucso who took control early in the set, but droped his serve from 40-15 and failed to hold serve for the entire set. 4th set was again, very close, looked like the Hungarian was gonna force a 5th after having 3 consecutive set points, but he made 2 unforced errors and a bad drop shot. In the tiebreak, Rublev destroyed him.
Worth saying that the quality was very good.

Fucsovics is a mental mug. He had leads in every single set, yet lost in 4

One of the great mysteries in life how Rublev actually got that done in four.

Fucs was 5-3 up in first (still won TB), 5-3 in second and had three set points at 4-5 in fourth set.

Still it's done and one more round but Tsitsipas has really kicked on since his escape in round 1 so will be tough. First set will be key in that I think.

Now the key question, did Buda win his bet?

4 hours against Fucsovics? Jeez. Not good. I would like to see Novak play Rublev since they never played before. I hope he has enough left to beat Tsitsipas, who doesn't deserve to be in a SF.

all these long matches for Rublev. Djoker will feast on him or Tsitsipas in the semis, since that QF match will likely go long as well.

Great fight from Rublev since the Hamburg final. This puts him in the driver seat for a tour finals spot as well, especially considering form, if he makes the Semi he’s a huge fave to qualify.

Another incredible fight from rubles, if a few points went the opponents way the match would have been Fucsovicss. Showing this kind of mental strength at his age is a good sign for the future. Of course, if he wants to keep moving on in the tournament he needs to play better, because he will probably lose to tsitsi playing like this, and novak will finish him off in 3. Good tournament anyway, 2nd slam QF in a row, davai!

Fucsovics beat himself again. He should have won this match in 3-4 sets.
He won the 1st TB with commanding play, then had couple break leads in 2nd and 3rd sets even in 4th set, just to squander them with choking and cheap errors.
Even he closed with a 61/63 W/UE ratio, his converting of break chances was abysmal in 3-4. sets.
In 4th set TB it was all over Rublev, as Fucsovics seemingly didn't have anything left in the tank, neither tactically, nor physically, nor mentally.

That's a strange praise coming from you, just not exaggerate too much.
In reality, both Querrey and Fucsovics are mental midgets overall, being better than them mentally is not a big thing.

Surely whoever reaches the semi-final deserves to be there.
Not with that shit draw and level of play. He almost lost to Munar and really should've been playing at least 4 sets against the awful Dimitrov. Anyway, I just hope Rublev has enough energy left to send him packing.

Everyone is a mental midget these days, except Djokovic who's mentally average and that's enough.

I enjoyed the match though there were definitely a lot of swings. Both like their FH as a weapon, Rublev just a bit more constant and pumped in crucial moments. Tough for Marton.

So what? If you win, you move on to the next round and thus you deserve it.

You've got an odd logic. If it were up to you, losing players would move on because "they deserve it".

If he beats Rublev, he deserves it.
