we all love our countries but sometimes certain aspects/moments can really piss you off. Can't wait to here Abraxas tell us of his disgust that American influence has ruined his socialist utopia or Buddyholly moan that Clinton wasn't put away for having Monica whats her face suck on his dick while he ordered the bombing of some poor Balkan country.

Anyways heres mine. Ordered a British passport renewal 9 weeks ago and only got it today, said it would take 3 weeks. Guess what? Got a New Zealand passport (in the UK) in less than 6 days, wtf sort of joke country is Britain when basic documents of vital importance are issued 10 times slower than some sheep shagging island that is 12000 miles from my house?

Don't even get me started on the trains...

Just generally very conservative, very hawkish, very religious, strong culture of anti-intellectualism (America)

Too inconsequent, classist, all the people cares only about themselves and nothing more, the public system (health, pensions, education etc.) is pure shit which is made only for the rich people to profit. The open TV only shows programs about the life of reality-show guys, nothing for sport, culture and real news about real problems.

I also despise the little importance that the tennis has: it is by far the most successful sport in Chile but no one seem to care about it, we don't even have a decent stadium (the one used for the Viña Open isn't fix).

Just finished celebrating Canada Day with a great fireworks display from a barge moored just below my balcony.

Just finished watching Eugenie and Milos and Daniel.

Just finished checking the Toronto stock market (new all time high today).

Just had an authentic Chiang Mai dinner at a new restaurant nearby (crispy fried fish with tamarind sauce).

Just now watching the lights of the disco boats on Lake Ontario from my balcony.

Tomorrow, after Eugenie wins I will take a 10 minute ferry ride, 50m from my door, to the islands and enjoy the beach.

I love Canada more and more every day. Becoming a Canadian citizen was the best thing I ever did.

What has Clinton and Monica's blue dress got to do with my country?

Not sure from where I should begin. A big mess and so much corruption there (Iraq). No real change will happen. Period.

you are from Iraq?

The United States is a great place, and I say that even having travelled much of the globe (except for Eastern Asia). However, these are some little pet peeves I have with things Americans generally do. It should go without saying that these are generalized criticisms, not particular to any one person or group:

1) Americans are very complacent. They'll believe whatever the government tells them, whatever the news tells them, and whatever they hear from their friends. This lack of critical thinking capacity is what allows scumbag politicians and capitalists to keep squeezing the middle class further and further while profiting from it every step of the way.

2) American women, in general, have an absolutely horrible taste in men. I see this over and over - beautiful young college girls who get good grades and have great personalities will routinely bypass the opportunity to go out with decent men in favor of lusting after some dirtbag just because he can play a few chords on a guitar.

3) Going off the last point, gold-digging is a huge problem here in the States. And believe it or not, this a completely gender-neutral issue. Love is almost purely transactional in some settings these days. If you're rich guy and you really know how to flaunt it, you can more or less purchase a hot girlfriend. I'm not kidding. And if you're a rich girl, you'll have guys chomping at the bit to marry into your family.

4) Almost nobody has entrepreneurial ambitions here. You'll almost never hear someone say "I want to start my own business and make it big". It's always, "I want to get a job at some existing corporation". This may not seem like a huge deal, but it makes it all too easy for the big multinational corporations to dominate the marketplace and basically dictate the consumer way of life.

5) People in the States are notorious for making plans and then postponing, cancelling, and/or forgetting them. It's become so commonplace these days that a lot of people think it doesn't warrant an apology or any blowback. And then they whine about not getting invited to stuff.

6) America is an extrovert-dominated culture. If you're shy, reserved, or need your alone time every now and then, life becomes a lot more difficult. This is rather confusing, because our public school system does everything it can to warn kids about the dangers of excessive drinking and partying at the expense of schoolwork and other obligations, but once you get into college/university, you quickly realize that if you aren't partying/drinking/hooking up constantly and instead focused more on schoolwork, you'll have a very difficult time developing a good social life or (more importantly) a good professional network for post-graduation.

7) Compared to the rest of the world, employers give their employees very little vacation time and very few benefits. If you're going through a difficult period in your life and it's noticeably affecting your work performance, chances are you'll get fired and replaced rather than being cut even the tiniest bit of slack by management.

8) People spend way too much time on their phones. They'll text while driving, while eating, while studying, and even while you're trying to have a conversation with them.

Other than all that, America is a pretty awesome place.
