Chelsea 2012 are the biggest fluke in football history, Greece got nothing on them. Barcelona 2011 are the best club team I've ever seen.

That contrast in style/pedigree between Champions in consecutive CL years is a historical one ..Agreed, there was no team beating that 2011 Barca team..I would maybe include even historic international teams not measuring up to that squad..No better than the word of Alex Ferguson who got outclassed in the Final....

How have you managed to place Liverpool that highly?

Liverpool win was one of the biggest flukes ever. Hello Milos Baros goal at semifinal. Another fluke one is real. Ramos' goal came from corner which was never existed in the first place. Add to this that match in Dortmund...yeah. The most weak LC in my memory was 2007 - absolutely dreadful season so it's quite fitting that mediocre milan team won it. Athens' final was probably the worst lc final in 2000s. Bayern nearly choke their final with an average finalist, probably that's why barca is ahead. And you underrate porto. Probably because of style, but despite some luck in manchester (hello tim howard) they were rock solid in qf-sf-f. Even though their opponents were average.

Amazing KO stage, going through Juve/Chelsea/Milan is no small feat..first two teams won their league in 2005, and a stacked Milan team (Serie A 2004)is always tough proposition in Europe, especially so when you look down and out after after half time in the Final.....

So you're basing it just on their Champions League performance? Because all things told that team wasn't a patch on anything else on that list barring Chelsea 2012.

Eit: Maybe Milan 2007 as well. One man team effectively.

I think as a separate issue it's interesting to look at which winners were genuinely the best side in Europe when they won it.

Other than Barcelona (2009-2012)that question becomes subjective for most part, IMO..For example,Bayern last year were the best team Europe from September-March, but then fizzled and got stomped by Madrid who were close behind but peaked at the right time for their SF meeting..Who would you chose in this case?

It's subjectivity is what makes it interesting. As for last year, Atletico probably, with Bayern second.

A cursory glance tells me that the best team won it 5 times out of 11. I would argue, for instance, that Real were the best team in 2012, much as they were outplayed by Bayern when it mattered.

Mine would be similar but something tells me BauerAlmeida isn't the biggest fan of Inter  I'd put them 6th or 7th.

Barcelona 2011, #1 by far. Best team I've ever seen, plus, the best player ever playing in it. Awesome stuff..it was just glorious the way they used to play and execute.

I have to admit that Barcelona dominated both seasons in which they won it (2009 and 2011). Pure class, definitely the best football of this given decade. Afterwards is Bayern 2013 of course, one hell of a season for them.

Then there's a big gap between those teams and Real 2014. Fantastic team with great players, very memorable final too. They weren't as dominant, what with the Dortmund away leg. Great semifinal against Bayern though, big humiliation.

Five, Manchester United 2008. Horrible final, but a great team with a lost English generation and one of the best goalies in the world. Also, Cristiano Ronaldo, and the fact that they faced one of the best collection of footballers of all time in the final. Seriously, a midfield with Ballack, Makelélé and Lampard!?

Number six would be Barcelona 2006, though I don't remember much of that season. Anyway this was before the Messi era and Arsenal was still a big contender (even being one man down).

Seven will be Chelsea 2012, just for the excitement. They were underdogs in all of their matches and time and time again pulled through with clenched buttocks. A combination of sheer luck, tactical genius from Di Matteo and Didier Drogba.

Eighth place for Inter. Beat the heavy favorites Barcelona. Mourinho was coach.

Nine, Liverpool 2005. Fantastic final, best first fifteen minutes after halftime of all time. Jerzy Dudek with epic goalkeeping. Xabi Alonso.

Ten, Porto 2004. Very average team, obviously. Had to play another underdog in the final. Only good win came against Manchester United, but this was wholly undeserved. Mourinho, again, the bastard.

11. Milan 2007. Terribly boring team and horrible season.

Expected from a Juve tard  obviously i have to agree that Volcano and road trip to Milan did in Barcelona in the 1st away leg, but one also has to credit to Mourinho's coaching job in Inter-- maybe his best balancing act of defense/offense football despite the disgusting semifinals strategy in Camp nou..
