Inter Parfums signs tennis ace Nadal

01-Oct-08

Tennis world number one Rafael Nadal has signed a deal with Inter Parfums to be global ambassador for its Lanvin line of fragrances. The star will help develop a new Lanvin fragrance which is set for a summer 2009 launch.

The positioning of the new fragrance line, which is to be called Lanvin L'Homme Sport, will be built around Nadal's image. A range of products will be aimed at a younger market than is usual for the Lanvin brand. Inter Parfums is planning to launch the brand throughout Europe and the US.

Nadal, a Wimbledon champion and Olympic gold medallist, will be at the centre of a major marketing push for the launch. The Spaniard joins a number of other tennis stars, including Andre Agassi, Venus and Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, as a fragrance spokesperson.

Paris-based Inter Parfums creates and manufactures several brands of fragrances and cosmetics under license, including Burberry, Paul Smith, Christian Lacroix and Van Cleef & Arpels.

Rafa? Lanvin?

WTF?

Next thing you know he'll move out of his parents' house.
He is just full of surprises isn't he? In one of his blogs he mentioned he was wearing Lanvin and even then I thought, "what...?", it does not exactly go with his other sponsorships but since they will create a new scent around him, why not, no? Can't wait to smell him

The only reference quickly found was in Pro Tennis Fan:

Nadal Signs Cologne Deal
Barcelona company Antonio Puig has signed a deal with Rafael Nadal to create a new cologne with him which is expected to go on sale at the beginning of 2006

From what I recall it was only available in Europe. I remember there was video about the making of the commercial. With the exception of Rafa mentioning it in a Q&A there never seem to be much if any advertising. I think it was called Sportsman Pro and Rafa was to promote it versus it being his signature product.

The commerical is still on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rcoeJAN5eY

... it looks like he's using Victoria Secret Body Spray!!!... :haha:
I thought so too.

He looked uncomfortable in that ad. I'm thrilled his Q rating went up a million points in the past few months but why does everybody have to jump into the perfume business? Perfume just isn't "him". Stick with the watch/deodorant/Nike ads.

*edit*

Adding scan from this week's People magazine. :D And some screencaps I took during the week of USO. Rafa was quite popular on Yahoo and YouTube then. :p

I think he mentioned in one of his many blogs that he used Lanvin. I suppose he thinks it will be better to be the face of something he actually uses.

Babolat, Nike, Kia, TimeForce are the only brands that I associate strongly with Rafa.

I saw at vb that Rafa on the beach pics made People magazine this week. Sadly not the bare ass ones

ATP Tour - No distractions for Nadal in Madrid

Eurosport - Sat, 11 Oct 13:39:00 2008

Strengthening his position at the top of the world rankings is the priority for Rafael Nadal rather than November's Davis Cup final against Argentina, the Spaniard said ahead of next week's Madrid Masters.

The 22-year-old's has had a spectacular season, winning a fourth consecutive French Open, gold at the Beijing Olympics and his maiden Wimbledon title to replace arch-rival Roger Federer as the world number one.

He is not about to give that up easily.

"My objective is to arrive safely on Wednesday, ready to play a good match. Winning the tournament isn't the objective but to ensure I am still number one at the end of the year," Nadal said after a training session on Friday.

He batted away a flurry of questions from local media about the Davis Cup final, saying: "I am playing Madrid now, then Paris, Shanghai and after that you can ask me about Mar del Plata."

Federer's cool demolition of Andy Murray in last month's US Open final added to the feeling that the Swiss world number two has rediscovered his best form, and there is the possibility of a fifth meeting with Nadal this term, in Madrid.

Nadal has won all four clashes between the two in 2008.

"It would be great to have another duel with Federer. If I play him it means I will be number one at the end of the year because I will have reached the final. I can only meet him there," Nadal added.

Nadal, Federer, Serbia's Novak Djokovic and Britain's Murray have all guaranteed themselves places in the lucrative Masters Cup in Shanghai on November 9-16, leaving four more places up for grabs.

Russia's Nikolay Davydenko, who was ousted from the Kremlin Cup at the quarter-final stage on Friday, and American Andy Roddick, knocked out of the Japan Open in the semi-finals a week ago, take up fifth and sixth places in the ATP 2008 race.

Spaniard David Ferrer, American James Blake, in-form Argentine Juan Martin del Potro and Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka are battling it out for the last two slots.

Defending champion David Nalbandian, ranked seventh in the world, is well off the pace down in 26th in the race for Shanghai, but has recovered from some early season injuries.

He was competing in the semi-finals of the Stockholm Open on Saturday.

I only have the Dutch article but it seems that Nadal will once again be skipping the South American clay swing in favour of Europe as Richard Krajicek tournament director for the Rotterdam tournament has announced that he is in Madrid and that Nadal will be signing for the 2009 edition of the Rotterdam tournament.
