Paris (AFP) - Ernests Gulbis insists he has no regrets over a career which has seen him locked up in jail, label the big four as boring and be damned as a spoilt rich kid.

But the colourful 25-year-old, the son of one of Latvia's richest men and who once travelled to tournaments in a Lear jet, hasn't completely mellowed when he suggested Friday that pro tennis is no place for women.

"Hopefully they will not pursue a professional tennis career," said Gulbis when asked if his two younger sisters might follow him into the business.

"Because for a woman, it's tough. I wouldn't like my sisters to become professional tennis players. It's a tough choice of life.

"A woman needs to enjoy life a little bit more. Needs to think about family, needs to think about kids. What kids you can think about until age of 27 if you're playing professional tennis, you know.

Yawn, controversial headline out of nothing. He wouldn't like his sisters to be pros. Big deal.

But he does talk about women in general, and not only about his sisters. He says they should worry about kids and family, but men don't?

This caused a shitstorm on Twitter earlier :spit: He should have stopped at "It's a tough choice of life". Poor choice of words also didn't help, but people definitely are overreacting about this one. GOATbis just delivering us some interview entertainment. Hopefully he never changes.

wtf gulbis :spit:

He should gave us the real reason why women shouldn't become professional tennis players and that reason is because they either become weaponless pushers or brainless ballbashers. nothing more.

That's why I didn't want to become a pro and be a millionare.
I chose to stay home, cook lunch and make kids (with Seppi).

Competely unexpected, this time Gulby only hints to his real opinions instead of just saying them straight up...what a hypocrite :)

Everyone knows that women's sports should be abolished :), maybe with the exception of gymnastics, figure skating etc. :).

He said the life of a professional tennis player is hard, but he's not stopping them from playing. He would prefer they choose an easy life(his family is loaded and has no financial incentive to play tennis). He also never said that its "no place for women". Media invented controversy

These journalists should be embarrassed.

comment 1. For him, women are good to have kids or becoming a prostitute. Moron.

2. He's just trolling. Nobody can be THAT dumb.

Its still an idiotic thing to say. Tennis is no harder for women than for men.
