Welcome to Pick-A-Winner (PAW), the Predictions game!​

Playing is simple: over the course of the tournament choose any 13 matches in the Main Draw and post who you think will win them. The scoring points besides each fixture represent the points you score if the corresponding player wins. Whoever has the most points at the end of the tournament is the winner. If this is the first time you’re playing or you’re not familiar with the rules of the game, here’s a link to the Official PAW rules and supplement thread.

Commitments​

In order to play in this tournament you should have posted a commitment to play in the PAW February 2014 commitment thread. The deadline for commitments is Monday 24th of February 2014 at midnight local time.

Wildcards​

If you haven't posted a commitment until midnight (local time) on 24th of February 2014, then you can ask for a wildcard. The number of WCs is limited to 5 per tournament. Any pick posted without having a WC or early commitment is not valid.
=> NEW From 2008 onwards we’ve limited the number of WCs for each player to 3 a year. You can keep track of how many you have used here.

Posting your picks​

Please post your picks in the following format:
PAW## Player A (winner) over Player B (loser)
## number of pick in ascending order (01 to 13)
For me is better if you can enumerate the first pick with 01 instead of 1, the second pick with 02 instead of 2...
Please use the official last names of players, not nicknames.
A valid pick must include the names of both players (winner first) and the word over.

Before posting picks, check that the matches haven't started yet. A pick that is posted after a match started is invalid and may be replaced. I will use website www.xscores.com to verify that pics were posted before the start of the match.

In case a match doesn't take place due to withdrawal or change of the draw, the pick is invalid and may be replaced. If a player retires or defaulted after the match has started (even if one point was played), the pick is valid.

Changing your picks​

If you want to amend a previous pick (cancel or change), quote the original post and add a new message. Don't edit the post and never delete it!
A moderator will scan this thread every day to track on deleted/edited posts. If you caught cheating, you will be automatically disqualified from this tournament. In certain case, you might be banned from playing temporarily or permanently. Please play fairly, everybody!

Don't forget, you're limited to 13 picks throughout the whole tournament.

Note: Tie break rules
In case several players have the same number of points, the following rules will be used to determine their ranking:
1. The greater number of correct picks. If there is still a tie then:
2. The greater points of a single pick. If there is still a tie then the greater second-best pick, and so on. No pick will be considered better than 0 pts.
3. If there is still a tie then players will stay tied.

2/03/2014:

-> Picks Summary has been updated until post #84 and League Standings are updated with the Final League Standings once the tournament is over. The champion is Wojtek! It was clear that he was going to win since he only needed to pick Lorenzi over Delbonis to win the tournament, regardless of the result of the final. In the battle for the runner-up position both igmIGM and robuś picked Delbonis to win, so there were no changes and robuś keep his second position and ends as the runner-up of the tournament.

-> The tournament is over. Scoring Points have been updated with the last result of the tournament.

1/03/2014:

-> Picks Summary has been updated until post #76 and League Standings are updated with all the Saturday results. Wojtek and ŕobus are the only two players able to win the tournament. In addition, ŕobus will need to fight with igmIGM as well for the runner-up spot. I remember that when a player arrives to the last day of competition and he only has one more pick to be done (I mean, he did 12 picks and he has 1 pick left) he can send the pick to the manager with a private PM according to Final Pick rule written in PAW Rules thread. I told these three players that they can do it by PM but there are four more players that can do it (the ones that have 12 picks made until now).

-> All the Saturday matches are finished and counted in this update. The final match for Sunday is on green now.

28/02/2014:

-> Picks Summary has been updated until post #67 and League Standings are updated with all the Friday results. Congratulations to Wojtek! He maintains his lead one day more. He is close to the victory but not in an easy position to end the tournament: opened matches and more pressure than ŕobus, who needs to get a very good last pick of the tournament.

-> All the Friday matches are finished and counted in this update. Matches for Saturday are on green now. The SF matches to be played tomorrow, the Final on Sunday. You have all the possible combinations for the Final available.

27/02/2014:

-> Picks Summary has been updated until post #54 and League Standings are updated with almost all the Thursday results (Haider-Maurer - Bellucci still pending). Congratulations to Wojtek! He maintains his lead one day more. ŕobus is getting closer! It looks like one of them will be the winner, and the other the runner-up.

-> Only 1 match of Thursday (Haider-Maurer - Bellucci) isn't finished. All the other matches have been counted in this update. Matches for Friday are on green now. The QF matches to be played tomorrow, the QF on Friday, the SF on Saturday and the F on Sunday.

26/02/2014:

-> Picks Summary has been updated until post #45 and League Standings are updated with almost all the Wednesday results (Haas - Starace still pending). Congratulations to Wojtek! He maintains his lead with authority, with an excellent AVG P (Average Pick) ratio.

-> Only 1 match of Wednesday (Haas - Starace) isn't finished. All the other matches have been counted in this update. Matches for Thursday are on green now. The other half of the R16 matches to be played tomorrow, the QF on Friday, the SF on Saturday and the F on Sunday.

-> Cava asked for a WC and I granted it so we are 13 players in this tournament! Not the luckiest number but definitely better than 12 There are still 4 WC remaining, and if you are a new PAW player you can ask for a WC even if there are no WC available (according to PAW rules). 25/02/2014:

-> Picks Summary has been updated until post #33 and League Standings are updated with almost all the Tuesday results (Starace-Gonzalez, Giraldo-Bellucci and Elias-Ramos still pending). Congratulations to our new leader, Wojtek! Good start in a tricky tournament. Austrianfreak follows him only 1 point down!

-> Only 3 match of Tuesday (Starace-Gonzalez, Giraldo-Bellucci and Elias-Ramos) aren't finished. All the matches have been counted in this update. Matches for Wednesday are on Green now. Half of the R16 matches, I expect to see the other 4 matches played on Thursday and then QF on Friday, SF on Saturday and F on Sunday.

24/02/2014:
-> First League Standings and Picks Summary are published (until post #23 and with all the Monday matches results). There is no leader since we all failed our picks! Everybody who picked and picked wrong is at the bottom of the League Standings according to tie break rules (which haven't been applied because it is a silly effort).

-> Matches for Tuesday are coloured in Green. All the R32 round to be completed tomorrow. R16 matches to start on Wednesday (you have the Scoring Points available).

-> 2/3 Monday matches are over (Cuevas-Zeballos still to be played). Scoring Points have been updated, and now there are less combinations of R16 matches (as we are knowing winners of R32).

-> Commitments are closed. Commitments list has been published, we have 12 players in Sao Paulo! It is the minimum necesary amount of players to host a tournament. One player less and we would have had our tournament suspended! There are still 5 WC available, plus remember that if you haven't played the game before you can ask for a WC even if there are no WC available (according to PAW rules).

23/02/2014:

-> Commitments list to be updated on Monday. I don't know if I will have the Picks Summary and League Standings ready for Monday or if I will do it in Tuesday morning Sao Paulo time, there are only 3 matches for Monday.

-> Qualifiers to be placed on Monday night - Tuesday morning (CET time).

22/02/2014:

-> Do not expect the best management as I am managing two tournaments at the same time this week! I guarantee that you will have the SP's ready when it matters (I will post combinations about next possible matches and if you know the winner you will know the match that you have to look at). About the other things (Picks Summary and League Standings) I think that they are not vital in order to run a PAW tournament and I will take more time with them.

-> Picks Summary and PAW commitments to be released on Monday. League Standings to be released on Tuesday.

-> After the Qualifying Rounds end I will update the Scoring Points placing the qualifiers.

-> Scoring Points are up with all the matches where without a qualifier playing on it. Possible known combinations about R16 matches available as well.

Remember that...

Picks format:

It should be "PAWXX Player1 over Player2", where XX goes from 01, 02, 03, ..., 11, 12, 13.

-> You shouldn't start your picks with PAW1, or PAW2, etc. always you have to put two numbers after PAW, so the correct way is PAW01, or PAW02, etc.

-> You shouldn't put a ":" after PAWXX, so you shouldn't write "PAWXX: Player1 over Player2" and the correct way to post it is "PAWXX Player1 over Player2".

-> You should put the word "over" between the two players of the match. You shouldn't use some synonyms like "defeat", "wins", etc.

-> The players are named by their last name. You should write the first letter of the player's last name in capital letters, and the other in minuscule letters. So you shouldn't write "PAWXX PLAYER 1 over PLAYER2" and the correct way to write it is "PAWXX Player1 over Player2".

Why I'm advicing you? The reason is that I'm using the Evita's templates to manage this tournament and if you put your picks in other format I will have to enter it to the template manually correcting your pick style to my pick style, so it is better to everybody just to follow these rules, that are very simple and helps me a lot in order to spend less time.

You can make picks before the first point of the match is played. In order to check if your pick was in time or not I will use website www.xscores.com
