Come on these 2 matches will be the epitome of quality tennis and as for Roddick that comment is a bit rich coming from him.

i know what you mean about roddick, but i dont think we can really accuse him of being boring to watch. it did seem somwewhat hypocritical though when he bemoaned the fact that mirnyi kept acing him. maybe roddick thinks he doesn't hit many aces but instead wins his matches with his incredible backhand and volleys

anyway. i will be hoping for ivo and max to both win those matches...

It's subjective depending on what you like as for Roddick being boring to watch, he is for some people and not others. Not everyone likes people hitting huge serves and forehands and screaming at umps doesn't make it more interesting, the way he wins matches isn't exactly finesse tennis, so that's why I called it a rich statement.

There are always dog matches at Slams, it's just knowing which ones to avoid.
It'd be interesting to finally see a match-up between Agassi and Big Ivo, although I wonder whether Agassi would need even one tiebreak to get the win - maybe with the speed of the courts, Karlovic can push him close. One thing's for sure, he won't play Agassi's game; on the latter's serve, he's not going to try running down shots once the point goes long.

true true true. but roddick is nothing new. he is just one of the new breed of power players. some people thought becker was boring when he first came along because he muscled opponents off the court. sadly you could say, roddick is the direction in which mens tennis is moving.

if that match went to 4 sets, i'd give ivo a good chance of breaking the world record for aces.
Not me - I'll be at Giorgio Galimberti v Donald Young, a classic in the making.
giorgio galimberti is an awesome name
Not as good as Corrado Barazzutti. Or Massimiliano Narducci.
I'm praying my heart out that I'll get to see Ivo vs Mardy.
Unfortunetly I'm not joking.
Hey, I'm not surprised, 'tis a big match for Fish. He has to take his chances in the breakers this time, unlike that AO encounter.

Both of these are matches that Wertheim had included in his list of matches to watch

First-round matchups to watch

Paradorn Srichaphan vs. Younes El Aynaoui. All nice guys match

Max Mirnyi vs. Justin Gimelstob. Two lumbering serve-and-volleyers.

Blake vs. Greg Rusedski. Two Brits. Imagine the coincidence.

Gus Kuerten vs. Paul Goldstein. Beating a name player would prolong Goldstein's summer of love.

Mardy Fish vs. Ivo Karlovic. Best treatment for fish's bum wrist surely isn't facing a barrage of 140 mph serves.

Henman vs. Verdasco. Has upset written all over it.

I have a new favorite name. Paul Capdeville. :D
I'll probably be at the Gimel-Mirnyi match. Mardy is not going to love facing that serve, that's for sure, but I'll take a pass on that one.

Both are better than watching Puerta vs Puenes on grass
