Yes it is totally allowed. It is allowed for every player, not just those fighting for first place.
Only the pick for a Tournament Final can be sent by PM to the manager. The Manager then tries to post the picks received as soon as they can after the match starts. Or before they post the final update.

It was not this time that I won a big tournament.
I was following @NextGenKing since those 52 points Lu over Querrey and a good 7 correct picks streak.
At some point before making my PAW18 I thought I could win even without making my PAW19.
But it was a great final sprint for @timmieboy04 and certainly deserved. Congrats!
