This is the 3rd time they have played this year. They are 1-1 for matches this season, they have never played on clay.

Both of them had Byes to reach the 2nd round, well Ancic won his 1st round match in 41 minutes, therefore it's as good as a bye.

2008 ATP Masters Series Miami, U.S.A. Hard R64 Ancic 6-2 2-6 7-6(7)
2008 Marseille, Hard F Murray 6-3 6-4
2006 Auckland, Hard R16 Ancic 6-3 7-6(4)

Murray is going to have to perform in Alex's backyard or he'll be walking to Rome.

This is a very interesting match and not easy to call. Murray in 3.

i'd give murray the edge because he will probably stay more consistent throughout the match

Though one. I like both players, always makes it more difficult to make an unbiased prediction ... :(

Murray in three, but can appreciate whatever outcome.

The question in this one, is will any of them actually take the initiative or try out passive play the other?

Interesting match. I like them both. I think it is going to be tight, 3 sets, slight edge to Andy...

Not often did I see Mario being passive...
You don't watch a lot of his matches, then? Ancic can be very passive and not use his great reach at the net often enough.

Muzza really ought to win this in two. But Muzza rarely does what he ought to these days.
