Well, if you don't believe in it, chances to get it are 0%, so anything better is an improvement, no matter how unlikely it seemed.

Medvedev, FAA, Rublev, Zverev and Khachanov who all are semi-competent to decent returner should theoretically handle him in the future at slam level (where it is tougher for servebots).

Edit: how i forgot De Minaur!

Well if any slam was playing as fast as the 90-ties grass he would stand a real chance but with current surfaces I really doubt it.
His serve wouldnt get any more potent as is, but his lumberjack strokes would suffer, so no.

He's got a chance to win wimby someday because of his serve, and the new tb rules should help which didn't help isner or anderson in the past.

But the trouble with the serve bots is that they get tires longer they get in the tournament, but the grass is more forgiving then other surfaces

Better than Querrey, who was aiming for Grand Slam quarterfinals iirc.

Well, without a doubt I think he can contest for a slam, or more.

By the way, anyone know how you can search through a thread in this new forum?

I honestly think that in a few years he can servebot his way to a grandslam title, why not? It's not like the other kids are massively better than him.

Depends how he improves his game in the next couple of years. Can easily see him in the latter stages of a slam but not 100% sure if he’ll have a more successful career than Anderson for example

The big difference is that Anderson and other guys had to go through Fedalovic. Look at WTA, that's a sight to the future of ATP's tour as soon as the big 3 retire: random slam winners out of nowhere.

That is a good point but there will always be 1,2 or in the case of the last 15 years 3 people who dominate and pick up the majority of the slams and I don’t see one of those people being Opelka

This is the right attitude for Opelka to have. I doubt it will happen, but this should obviously be his goal.

Opelka probably read the infamous Johnny Groove thread where he bullied Querrey into oblivion for "only" wanting to win the Davis cup and get to grand slam quarterfinal. I havent watched enough Opelka to form an opinion but god help us if we get an Isner Querrey hybrid that wins a slam. At that point I would honestly switch to table tennis

tbh that article said more about how strong the era was than anything else. Nowadays any Trump supporter can theoretically pick up the crack pipe and tennis raquet and make a GS QF. Back when Querrey made that statement the big 4 and next 4 held an Iron grip on the top 8 spots at slams. And despite having modest goals Querrey exceeded them, something that worked out the opposite for Johnny Groove.

He has no chance , wont have any in the future . Not gonna happen , ever , mark it , book it ,
Ok now seriously ,

If he learns some pressure game typical of the grass surface in 5 years when there are no specialists or worth players for the surface , Wimby wont be out of reach but a posibility.
Plus Just to add Slams are a marathon now more than ever , you gotta have the stamina / endurance , really big guys beed to shorten points over the course of 7 x bo5 .
