At this stage, it's almost a given he will blitz past Wawrinka for 4th spot, who is just ahead of him and could even fall behind before Melbourne starts should he lose Chennai. Granted, he's still more than 1,500 points behind Nadal, but with the Spaniard defending 1,200 points from last year's final and Nishikori only 180 (lost in R16 to... Nadal), this is very doable. A semi could very well be enough to do the job (depending on how cards fall for Nadal), or at least to put him within striking distance for the next couple of tournaments. Kei is definitely on the rise right now. ;)

It is sure Kei will be #4 after AO but for #3 i am not so sure.

Wait, if Stan wins the QF, he would actually secure 4th Seeding even if Nishikori wins Brisbane, isn't it?

Remember, the calendar was moved one week later, which means points from tournaments are dropped during Monday their week instead of next week. That means Chennai and Brisbane points are dropped, so Stan could haul as many points as he can (+45 currently) while Nishikori has to be in the Final to even gain points (as his minimum is currently 90 in the "Others"). By my calculations Nishikori could have max. 5185 points at the end of the week while Stan currently has 5165 points. One more win for Stan and I think he could secure #4 ranking before AO.

You forgot 1 very important Slamray. Winning the AO is all but guaranteed and then there's nothing Kei can do to get to #3

If he has a good start to the season, he can make it to #4, which would be very helpful in terms of seeding/draws of course.

My bad. :) It does seem possible if Nishikori could get over his round last year (very possible) and Stan doesn't defend (sadly, very possible too), while Nadal seem unlikely to defend his Finals points too (but then again he's Nadal...). From the Top 10 it seems Cilic could've gotten the most gain in AO but he withdrew so each of the Top 10ers I think have to go at least to a QF to even gain points (Nishikori and Raonic losing in the R16 means they could gain the most points I think among those in the Top 10 who would participate this year).
