At this stage, it's almost a given he will blitz past Wawrinka for 4th spot, who is just ahead of him and could even fall behind before Melbourne starts should he lose Chennai. Granted, he's still more than 1,500 points behind Nadal, but with the Spaniard defending 1,200 points from last year's final and Nishikori only 180 (lost in R16 to... Nadal), this is very doable. A semi could very well be enough to do the job (depending on how cards fall for Nadal), or at least to put him within striking distance for the next couple of tournaments. Kei is definitely on the rise right now.
