First tour-level semi final. Top 100 debut. US Open direct entry. Routine win over 4th seed & defending champ. Not an un-winnable semi against Karlovic/Sela. Some great ground-strokes throughout this match as well. Things are starting to look up for Groth, with minimal points to defend for the rest of the year (74 I think). :yeah: :bounce: :woohoo:

Good luck in the semis Sam!! :yeah:

Mahut missed a number of very simple volleys, but did save a match point with a netcord. He did do well to make Sam serve it out though, saved 3 MP's at 3-6 *3-5.

Newport QF: Groth def. Mahut 6-3 6-4

Servebot with worst ground game than Karlovic beats "grass specialist" in Newport and reaches top 100 :superlol:

Groth must be salivating with so few points to defend and indoor hard not that far off. He could be a real force (until clay season comes back around)

I figured Mahut wouldn't do jack shit on Groth's serve knowing his return game, but what really surprised me is how often Groth was in Mahut's service games. He had chances to take both sets with double breaks :speakles:

Congrats to Groth, should have a decent shot at the final.

Wow Mahut was horrible, defending champion.... was worse from baseline than Groth:D, good week for Groth i am checking his whole year and 2014 Groth is really dangerou player on surface like grass, would like to see him play on some faster indoor courts, now with his ranking rising we will see what he can do vs better players

Mahut was horrible, Groth was in every one of his service games. Groth only faced one BP all match (off a clearly bad call), on which he calmly hit a 142 MPH serve. He can beat Karlovic (I will be very depressed if there are any breaks at all in that match) or Sela, and a title isn't impossible.

Groth should stay top 100 for a long time with indoor MDs and nothing much to defend.

This. And even with a higher ranking next claycourt season, he'll be guaranteed points just for pretty much being in certain tournaments, and will undoubtedly get a good draw here and there. As for this year, I don't think it's out of the question to see him in the Top 50 by year's end.

Groth has top 50 potential, but he has to maintain that serving.

 I just realised that Groth's only losses on grass this year have been to Kyrgios (and we all know how he went at Wimbledon) and Dolgopolov (who came the closest out of everybody besides Djokovic to actually beating Dimitrov).

Tennis balls all around the world shiver in terror at the prospect of Groth becoming an ATP regular.

I bet some middle linesmen are also not too excited of finding themselves opposite him.

expected, so-called grass specialist Mahut lost to Granollers at Wimbledon who has been awful the entire year

What a year for Groth. Not a fan of his game at all, but he has worked hard and fully deserves to be well inside the Top 100.
