To be fair, Sock is not the only WC with no ATP ranking. The other one is 19yo Brian Shi (#62 junior in 2018)

Brian Shi earned his WC by winning a tournament. He's also a local Long Island kid who grew up nearby.

It's still shocking how low Suck has fallen. He's a sure bet to lose next match he plays. Easy money.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the site blocking access from EU countries.

I found the results of the WC tournament

How do you go from top 10, masters winner, and WTF semi finalist to being unranked and losing to challenger mugs?

Sock has wasted his career. He got complacent and content and stopped working, stopped improving. He expected to stay in the top 25 by cruising through his career. Pro tennis does not work that way. The game has passed by Sock. He has been trying relentlessly the last six months to get his game and confidence back but he can't win a match.

He hasn’t had any success in ATP or challenger events since 2018. Maybe he should play in a futures event or just focus on doubles

Kind of a joke that Sock gets a wildcard. I think he can still use a protected ranking? let him work his way back.

WC well deserved for a player with the same ranking as most MTFers.
most MTFers? Who in MTF has a ranking?

Yeah, many tournaments in both ATP and WTA tour has these tournament that grant WCs for college players so they get to experience pro matches while they are still studying. Most of them are unranked or barely have any points because of this system.

Sock's schedule decisions are puzzling. He obviously won't turn down the WCs and the R1 paychecks but he doesn't seem to have any interest in playing challengers and getting his ranking back up again and I don't understand why??? He's just 27, former top 10 in singles, #2 and GS champ in doubles and looks like he's just given up on his career??? ??
He lost his doubles match too BTW.

i meant really focus on doubles. he did well with 1 of the Bryan bros. if he hooked up with a top doubles specialist he could really rake in the cash.
My bad. I actually thought he was now a full time doubles player. I didn't know he was still chasing the singles goal.
