Re: New to the top 100 - 2018 [15] Mmoh enters

Christian Garin is very close after his win in Santo Domingo. He has almost nothing to defend until the end of the year, while quite a few players ahead of him will lose a lot of their points, so he will almost certainly enter in the next few weeks. He would likely enter even without playing. Similarly, Felix Auger-Aliassime is also getting closer with little to defend.

Wow, amazing achievement from Humbert, in my most thorough expectations he wasn't supposed to enter top100 this season, kudos to him. Completely under the radar for most of the season, but he definetely has the tools to be a regular Top100 player.

Garin again #100 in the live rankings.

If he wins tonight against Dellien, he's safe. If not, Fabbiano and Sonego can still overtake him, if they reach the final in Liuzhou / Brest.

Christian Garin now officially in Top100.

No. #312 at the beginning of the year with a great season behind him. People were saying that he is actually more talented than Jarry, so maybe finally Chile will (well at least a little bit) feel like in Massu - Gonzo times.

Finally, we were waiting for this for a long time. Garin is now mentally strong enough to compete at a good level and I'm really looking forward to see him and Jarry to be on ATP level for a long time (just like our golden era with Rios, Massu and Gonzalez)

Garin :yeah:

Chilean tennis won't reach the Gonzalez/Massu peak but Garin and Jarry are so much more enjoyable to watch and much more likable too.

I had not been following Garin at all so I guess I should start checking him out.

Let's go Pedro! You can make it this week at age of 30.

Would be quite a feat. I don't recall him having that great a season until the last few weeks.

Gimeno-Traver certainly is very winnable.

Yes, he is doing well this end of season like he did last season. Unfortunately he had injuries issues at the beggining of season.

Re: New to the top 100 - 2018 [17] Garin enters

Yeah, that would be awesome

anytime I check the rankings - I find his name at #113, #105, #121, #114 etc., just like PoLLansky :)

Polansky is the Sousa of hardcourts and Sousa is the Polansky of clay :)

Would be the oldest Top100 debut since whom ? Eschauer maybe ?

Probably since Konstantin Kravchuk - he entered with 31yrs in 2016. At that time the following was posted:
The ten oldest debutante top 100 - Since 1985

Code:
Pos	Player Date Age Peak
 1 Daniel Munoz De La Nava	31.08.2015 33.59 68
 2 Victor Estrella 03.03.2014 33.59 43
 3 Dick Norman 14.10.2002 31.62 85
 4 Konstantin Kravchuk	01.08.2016 31.44 96
 5 Jeff Salzenstein	07.06.2004 30.65 100
 6 Eric Prodon 18.07.2011 30.06 83
 7 Luca Vanni 11.05.2015 29.94 100
 8 Stefano Galvani 02.04.2007 29.83 99
 9 Stephane Robert 01.02.2010 29.71 58
 10 Tomas Nydahl 06.10.1997 29.54 72
The difference between Munoz de la Nava and Estrella is just one day.
Eschauer had already entered for a couple of weeks with 29 in 2003. His peak in 2007 was only a reentrance.

And yesterday Gimeno-Traver with one of greatest chokes I've ever seen.

Serving for match 6-3 *5-1 and Pedro come back 5-7 in the second and then wining the 3rd 6-1.

Re: New to the top 100 - 2018 [17] Garin enters

P. Sousa has always been a massive well of talent hidden behind an absolutely fragile mindset and even more fragile body. His career kickstarted already well into his 20's... I'm not entirely sure anymore, it's been more than 10 years, but I remember that some kind of hormonal/growth/maturation/similar struggle was making it really hard for him to transition from juniors.
Not to mention the amount of times he's been injured - if we put all of it together, it'll probably be a few years. I'm almost sure that he spent well over a year consecutively out at some point, not that long ago.
Unsuprisingly, the reason why he's having a late season surge is because his 2017 season was cut short in September because of elbow problems so he's had nothing to defend for a while. I believe he was also pretty close to the top 100 by then, and then his season started pretty awfully (still suffering while playing) and he fell a bit - which means he'll have relatively little to defend in early 2019. Literally 6 points until April.

P. Sousa's run sadly was cut short by the eventual winner Pella defeating him in the semifinal, although Sousa was up 6-2 in the 1st Set. Will be World #104 I think but if he's going to play another tournament this week or the following, maybe he can be Year-End Top 100.
