Re: New to the top 100 - 2016 [10] - Nishioka enters

:worship::banana::cheerleader::aparty:
Finally!

Three guys I recall were even older: Estrella, Muñoz and Eschauer. But yep! It's really uncommon.
The ten oldest debutante top 100 - Since 1985

Code:
Pos	Player Date Age Peak
 1 Daniel Munoz De La Nava	31.08.2015 33.59 68
 2 Victor Estrella 03.03.2014 33.59 43
 3 Dick Norman 14.10.2002 31.62 85
 4 Konstantin Kravchuk	01.08.2016 31.44 96
 5 Jeff Salzenstein	07.06.2004 30.65 100
 6 Eric Prodon 18.07.2011 30.06 83
 7 Luca Vanni 11.05.2015 29.94 100
 8 Stefano Galvani 02.04.2007 29.83 99
 9 Stephane Robert 01.02.2010 29.71 58
 10 Tomas Nydahl 06.10.1997 29.54 72
The difference between Munoz de la Nava and Estrella is just one day.

In his first 12 years as a pro, Eschauer found little success, winning just 7 ATP-level matches and cracking the top-100 for just a few weeks in late 2003, peaking at No. 96.
.
In 2007 however, at the age of 33, Eschauer cracked the top 100 in April and reached World No. 52 in August. (...)
:sobbing: Well, I was wrong about Werner.
@famarte
Wow, one day. That's pretty unbelievable. Some of the names there, I wouldn't even remember them if they weren't posted right in my face.

Speaking about this! Roberto Carballes Baena has Bagnis to thank for and is now #98, meaning he'll make this thread change to a [14]. Monteiro is likely to join, and afterwards it will calm down a lot here.

Despite Monteiro's early exit in Los Cabos, it is very likely, that we will have a #15 this week.
Monteiro is #99 in live ranking.
On paper, there are still six guys who could overtake him, but all of them would have to win their tournament and one of them is Olivo, who would be #15 himself, if he wins Portoroz.
So for us not having a new entry, Sijsling would have to win Trnava and M. Zverev or Giraldo or Kamke or Krajicek would have to win Los Cabos.
With all due respect to those guys, I can't imagine both of that happening.
@trulliscorpion: Ready for another napkin bet?

:haha: Naaah. Don't want to jinx anyone else like I did to poor Tobias... :p

(OK... I just saw everyone is out so Monteiro will be #99 / #15 for sure. I've really been absent this week...)

After Monteiro at #15, Renzo Olivo is the next closest.

He is at his career high 109 right now, around 40 points away from that top 100 position. He's currently slated to play in the US Open Q's next week and with a few wins he could get pretty close.

After him, there are three young Americans, Denis Novikov at #119, Jared Donaldson at #121, and Frances Tiafoe at #123 that all would need great results to get into the top #100 soon.

After that surprising win over Tsonga in Rio, I might say he's the dark horse youngster to break the Top 100, so congrats Monteiro, especially in the year where Brazil is the place to be for sports.

Donaldson has qualified for the USO, so here's a thread of hope that there might be a #16.

(How in the world did the USTA overlook him for a WC after his recent results?)

He was unlucky with the draw playing Goffin in the first round - I doubt he'll get past him.

Same for Opelka. They preferred to give a WC to someone like Fratangelo...

I've learned to respect Fratangelo a lot lately. His physical and technical flaws are unquestionable but he learned to make up for it with some traits that aren't traditional in Americans, like hard work and mental resilience. It's still not a pleasure to watch him play, though. Shame for Opelka, but maybe the challenger-level qualifying field was a better experience for him. That's the kind of guys he will play for a few months now.

I do also respect him (and would actually prefer to watch him over Opelka), but he is not of the same caliber as Donaldson and Opelka.

Donaldson def. Goffin - I was totally wrong

Just needs one more win against Troicki or Albot (4-4 in 5th set) and we have a new entry!!

Ladies and gentlemen. Donaldson has whooped Goffin out of the USO. A very deserved spot on this thread is imminent.

Not official yet, but 19 yo Jared Donaldson will be number 16 to break into the top 100 after his win over Troicki tonight
