Nishioka is right now the closest to the achievement, but 2016's potential is perhaps a little smaller than 2015. Don't think we're gonna see so many new faces this time around.

New Top 100 for 2016:
1 - Taylor Fritz - February 29th 2016

2 - Yuichi Sugita - February 29th 2016

3 - Thomas Fabbiano - April 4th 2016

4 - Gastao Elias - April 25th 2016

5 - Daniel Evans - May 2nd 2016

6 - Jordan Thompson - May 2nd 2016

7 - Karen Khachanov - June 6th 2016

8 - Bjorn Fratangelo - June 6th 2016

9 - Adam Pavlasek - June 13th 2016

10 - Yoshihito Nishioka - July 11th 2016

11 - Gerald Melzer - July 25th 2016

12 - Andrej Martin - July 25th 2016

13 - Konstantin Kravchuk - August 1st 2016

14 - Roberto Carballes Baena - August 8th 2016

15 - Thiago Monteiro - August 15th 2016

16 - Jared Donaldson - September 12th 2016

17 - Renzo Olivo - October 3rd 2016

18 - Frances Tiafoe - October 10th 2016

19 - Daniil Medvedev - November 14th 2016

I'm not so sure about that - last year we saw the start of the process of the oldies being pushed out, but mostly by a lot of gen useless finally crawl in (albeit with a fair sprinkling of teens). Also last year relatively few bit runs up the rankings (as we did the year before) - I think we might see a few more of those this year though.

This year I think the generation change process in the top 100 will really accelerate as gen late 90s really come into their own.

Nishioka is an obvious one, but I would also suggest that Ymer, Donaldson, Kachenov, Fritz, Tiafoe, Rublev, Jasika, Halys, Djere, Duckhee Lee, Tommy Paul and several others well within striking distance.

And several in the slightly older group with a chance (among the Australians, Jordan Thompson and JP Smith in with a chance).

Good win for the recent new Top 100 player last year, Munoz-de la Nava, scoring an upset against Lopez, and also faces a fellow new Top 100 player last year, Kyle Edmund.

It's hard to see any of them making it other than Nishioka and Carballes, but both of them haven't been in good form.

Gombos came so close and fell off the wagon

Fritz seems to be a very safe bet. Not only is he in excellent form, but he is sure to get some WCs soon and really has no points to defend until summer.

I'd put my money on Basic to be the first. Yeah, Gombos has the talent, has the game, but all he needs is that killer mentality and to just stop choking matches, I've had this talk with him a lot and he has been told his by many more people. He made leaps in the mental part of his game, going from a futures player to a seeded challenger player, but still needs that something extra to live up to his potential.

Agree with you on Fritz, his game is looking really good, he already received a wild card in Memphis, I expect him to get one in Delray as well.

Melzer is in very good form, already won 2 challengers. Basic too is in fine form.
I really don't think Melzer or Basic are good enough for the Top 100. Basic would have to do exceptionally well these weeks, because when clay comes around he should stand no chance.

Melzer did well to win two titles but they were weak tournaments.

Basic is now one win away from pulling it off and being the first in 2016.

Really impressive by Fritz. He had 673 as career high at the end of September!

Yes, the rise of Fritz is pretty incredible. I am really curious to see his game on clay.

Fritz winning Most Improved Player of the Year in 2016 is not in doubt. Started the year at 174, now on 102. He can realistically get into the Top 50 by the end of 2016, if he remains focused. Top 30, if his game clicks even more.

Love the guy but I think we shouldn't overestimate him or he will fall as a Tomic or Dimitrov.

Pretty much anyone could have prevailed in that Memphis half, but it's just exceptionally special as he's 18. Only just 18 in fact. Now he has propelled himself into main tour territory, lets see how results go. We see good mental strength, physical game, power to upset good players. Now lets see some consistency hopefully - With his decent draw in Delray Beach I'd love to see him get to the Quarter-Final at leats.

It does not matter how weak they are, and Bucaramanga wasn't that weak, just as long as they keep racking up the points.

I understand how the system works, thanks.

I was merely saying that I don't think Melzer or Basic are good enough to warrant a place in the Top 100, whether they actually end up there or not.
