PBP Game trying to get it started b4 US Open:
I’ve always thought, and I’m pretty sure some other people must have thought about it too, what would happen if tennis was not a game divided in sets but a game where the competitor should get first to a certain amount of points (which in this case could posibly be 12 points) and win the match doing so?
Because of this question I started this game, formerly known as Luck or Lose, in my thread Denaon’s Den of Misfits in the Chat Threads area by the time of the French Open (Roland Garros). And it consists in guessing the better performance out of two tennis players:
For instance, we have last TMS Cincinnati semifinals:
Roger Federer vs. Robby Ginepri
Andy Roddick vs. Lleyton Hewitt
I have to choose one player who I think will do much better (and win, 6-0/6-0/6-0 would be the best score ever) than another one, in this case I would have chosen Federer better than Roddick.
PBP SF: Roger Federer better Andy Roddick.
With the results:
Roger Federer def. Robby Ginepri 4-6/7-5/6-4
Andy Roddick def. Lleyton Hewitt 6-4/7-6
This is not only about winning, it’s about doing it better:
Roger’s score: +2 games.
Andy’s score: +3 games.
This means that my pick is wrong and Andy did better than Roger in his win and I get 4 points for that.
Players can be picked just once each round, this means you cannot pick Roger Federer 7 times in R128 against different players.
Points are given accordingly to both picks, your player (A) and “the contender” (B) :
You get 10 points if A does better than B in winner vs. winner
You get 8 points if both A and B win and their scores tie
You get 6 points if A does worse than B in winner vs. winner
You get 4 points if A wins and B doesn't
You get 2 points if A does better than B in loser vs. loser
You get 1 point if both A and B lose and their score tie
If any player you choose to be either A or B retires, that pick won’t count and you get the chance of making other pick instead (might be on other round).
There will be a ranking that will include the differences in games of both A and B:
This means that my pick of Roger better than Roddick gave me a –1 difference.
Maximum PBP per round:
R128: 7 PBP
R64: 6 PBP
R32: 5 PBP
R16: 4 PBP
QF: 3 PBP
SF: 2 PBP
F: 1 PBP
In the final you choose who wins the tourney (of course that means 10 points or nothing)
Any questions and help both very welcomed.
