I gave up on Ruud back in 2022-2023 after that RG-US Open combo to all those losses to Alcaraz/Nadal/Djokovic where he was everyone's punching bag. Im waiting to see some new names finally emerge The Fritz/Ruud/Draper/ gen is just blahhh

He's really spotty, but when he's on....

 

Diapers and formla are expensive

 

This 2nd set has turned out to be insane. Ruud has to serve just get to a TB
UPDATE: which he did, at love - then won the TB 7-2. 👏

 

Ruud serve is usually great indoors.

 

He has great serving stats when he plays in the ATP Finals (after patches between after RG and the ATP Finals where he doesn't look like a Top 20 player IMO, except when playing some of the clay tournaments) so it isn't too surprising although the more surprising thing is why he isn't being consistent with that serving anywhere else.

 

Easy to serve great indoors, no elements(sun, wind) to deal with.

 

Is this why Rafa was so bad indoors?? Did Rafa need the sun and wind to win his matches??

 

Honestly, having a serve well over your average isn't particularly rare against a player like Opelka, who has a rather poor return anywhere.
