Just in. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...ws-annex-large-parts-occupied-west-bank-trump

Benjamin Netanyahu has announced he will annex large swathes of the occupied Palestinian territories if he is re-elected next week.

Israel’s prime minister said on Tuesday that he planned to make the move after next week’s Israeli election and hinted it may have been approved by Washington. “I am waiting to do this in maximum coordination with [Donald] Trump,” he said in a speech broadcast live on Israeli television.

He added that the US president was likely to release his long-touted Middle East peace plan soon. US officials have suggested the plan will not include a Palestinian state, something Netanyahu has promised to never let happen.

Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving leader, is battling for his political survival and the announcement was interpreted as a rallying cry to his rightwing base.

The PM stood in front of a large map on an easel that showed Israeli sovereignty extended over the vast majority of the Jordan Valley. The area accounts for up to one-third of the West Bank.

The map appeared to show Israeli territory completely encircling the West Bank, slicing off the eastern border with Jordan. Jericho, a Palestinian city, and smaller Palestinian villages were displayed as enclaves that would not be annexed.

Re: Netanyahu pledges to annex Jordan Valley if re-elected next week

This has always been the Zionist occupation plan: to steal the homes and the lands of Palestinian families... All the talk about "peace" was not true at all and this is why they muredered thousands of Palestinian people and even murdered their prim minster Rabin when it seemed he wanted the two-states solution...
This is why Palestinians resist. Honest people know that Palestinians want freedom from the occupation and that they have the right to fight the occupation...

By the way, the state of Palestine is already a member of the UN and is recognized by most countries of the world, his so called "map" will only be accepted by the USA which is already an enemy to the Palestinian people! Make no mistake, Palestinians will fight till the occupation ends!

I am surprised with that too. Almost all countries at UN are in favour of two-state solution and do accept existence of Palestinian state right next to Israel, what happend all of a sudden Netanyahu promises his electorate saying ''it is impossible and will never happen''? wth

Well of bibi said so it must be true, he never just say things to get right wing votes a week before the elections lol

The twists and turns of history really are something else. To see a country that refused to shelter jewish immigrants just months before the November pogroms now apparently being the stepping stone for the expansion of the jewish state by rolling over another 'nation without state'. Just the other week I was reading about the Trump puppet Juan Orlando Hernández publicly supporting Israel territorial politics.

This really does not bode well for the palestinian. A few days ago Jason Greenblatt jumped ship and that just can't be a good omen for what's to come.

You have always been consistent calling out Israeli right, from the day I joined here, so kudos.

What do you think of Boris' unconditional support to Netanyahu?

#17 ·
One day he will end up in the Hauge, I think. Once he loses an election.

Not fair to Israel because there a lot of liberals, progressives living and posting from the country I encounter on twitter and other social platforms. Weirdly, noone can beat this guy, he looks like ok he is losing this time but few days before the election he manages to glamourise the electorate somehow someway in the last minute.

Good question, will Israelis feel satisfied or has this dark path they chose to pursue make them insatiable? Ofc, conquering other countries will be a much more difficult matter.

I think that's a good idea. The sooner this, Golan heights and East Jerusalem being Israeli land become the established status quo, the better for everyone, the sooner everyone cones to their senses.

I think Putin is becoming a major inspiration for Bibi. Bibi might be not openly supportive of Crimea return to Russia, but he is clearly learning from that experience ?

#29 ·
that true indeed.

and ppl rather ignore the facts and the history of the area, doesnt suit well to their agenda

Time for USA to cut all aid to israel and ask for a payback. What is it about $100 billion by now? America First. Time for israel to stand on it's own.

How can he lead?

Gantz lead by 1 mandate
Gantz said he will not sit with him bc he id charged wuith bribery
Liberman refuse to sit with him without gantz

His only options is a miracle, that someone will change of heart or 3 election

Gantz is not a lefty at allllll

They just talk b/s and know nothing about Israel

Gantz is a center- right wing

The path to peace and reconciliation is always there. First, there has to be a deep hunger for peace on both sides. That means an end to outrage and violent posturing at every level of society. Ideally, it would also be facilitated by exceptional world leaders and talented diplomats and envoys.

In the past, Democrat administrations in the US have made great efforts to broker peace accords, just as they played a key role in the Northern Ireland peace process. But the United States is now a force for destruction, having elected an idiot of a president and a team of hawkish buffoons. The carte blanche they give to Netanyahu is the acme of foreign policy stupidity. Just as with the issue of climate change, the rest of the world will have to step in and take a leadership role, while the US acts like a big baby.

For historical reasons, the EU is poorly placed to assume this mantle, because of Germany's leading role at European level. In another era, Britain could have played a positive role, but it's got its own buffoon in office.

Not too long ago, a range of talented and dedicated US and UK politicians, such as George Mitchell, Mo Mowlam and Bill Clinton, helped broker a lasting (fingers crossed) peace in Northern Ireland.

By contrast, the administrations of today are a pack of petty vindictive minnows who throw their weight around like wannabe mobsters.

Lots of love to the peoples of Israel and Palestine. I hope you find a path to peace and compromise. As always, the people eagerly helping you to do the wrong thing: those people are not your friends.

Netanyahu wants to keep power in any way possible, it doesn't look good for him and it's not a pretty picture in politics anyway. Gantz has a much stronger coalition appeal and more maneuver space right now. Even the Israeli Arabs openly support Gantz. Obviously, it is Netanyahu who has personally become a liability in Israeli politics.

Yes and if the Likud won't come againat him and force the public to 3 elected they will pay

Keep in mind that by the law bibi is not a parlament remenber not prime minister so if he cant form a gov, his will be on a hearing without the temporary pm immunity

#68 ·
The mandate to form a government has been given to Netanyahu by the Israeli president, even though Benjamin came second. Interesting scenes.

#69 ·
Not interesting at all

#73 ·
he hope he will fail and the chance to form a gov will be given to the other benjamin.

Make no mistake, Netanyahu will stay president and it's a great thing.

no he wouldnt and shouldnt.

He is charged with bribery, fraud and breach of trust

the prime minister beffoe him, ehuid olmert had to step down and in the end went to jail for bribery. no messing around in our court no matter who you are

#78 ·
everyone start with charged. give it a few weeks.

the window is closing

#83 ·
But will he succeed getting a coalition? Even though Israeli Arabs declared that they can support him, he rejected as far as I know. New elections looming.

#84 ·
its a close call between new elections or Gantz forming some kind of a temporary gov or the right wing block breaks and one party joins the gov.

no one knows

i can tell u one thing i know for sure, if we will have elections for the 3 time in a year the public will be very very angry, even pissed
