So sad, Nepal is such a beautiful country. Looks like a lot of Kathmandu has been flattened too. And thoughts to those at various points on Moutn Everest, must have been terrifying!

Fuck this makes me think this could have very well happened to my village in North India, it's very close to the Indian plate..just like Nepal..it would have been a disaster..

I remember when an earthquake happened in Italy and couldn't sleep for weeks.. hopefully people in Nepal can get all the help they need, I'm not religious nor do I pray, but I really hope everything goes well from now on.. :)

tell me about it, i think half of israel is traveling to india and leave that a side the more populated the place the more risky it comes from things like that.

the thing is, we have no way to be safe from that and to israeli military is sending pictures and videos of the ppl that came to the feild hospital they build there and the numbers just go high and high...:sad::sad:

After shocks have occurred, smaller but still doing damage.

Depending on the type of earthquake, most of the energy exerted by the plates (divergent or convergent) would have been released.

But you never know, its a very active plate and another pressure point could be released.

True, but you have to think what is there that you can do to prevent natural disasters?

Pretty much nothing, just be prepared as best as possible and know how to,react correctly if one does occur.

I guess living where I do in Western Europe we have no real risk of big natural disasters, only some minor flooding at best.

You can't live in fear, if it happens it was meant to

Terrible news and tragedy for Nepal.
Whole towns and villages have been completely levelled.
Was supposed to be going there for work related training in another week or so, no surprises that has been postponed until after the Monsoon season.
Most foreign tourists would now be trying to get out.

On the brighter side - if there is one - it's an opportunity to rebuild and modernize. Kathmandu international airport was consistently rated as the worst in the world. Q/

from my brother's words, there is a very little number of things that aren't worst in the World for what comes to infrastructure, health, water, food, etc.

He said that probably around 10% of the streets in the capital have asphalt...

A very poor country, that will need all the possible international help to get on its feet at all.
