A British.
21 years.
Unranked coming into this week, but he had been doing well in futures qualies in 2011. This week, though, he got a wildcard into the $15,000 British future this week. He beat qualifier Ireland 6-4, 6-1 in the opening round, 382 ATP ranked Chris Eaton in the 2nd round, 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-3. That shows clutch play.
In the QF, he beat Swedish Ryderstedt, 329 ATP, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, again winning a tough 3 setter.
In the SF, he lost to 223 ATP Peter Torebcko 6-3, 2-6, 2-6, and one would imagine he ran out of gas in the last 2 sets vs. the #1 seed.
All in all, a good week for Pauffley, and he will move from unranked, outside top 2000, to #947 in the world on Monday.
I like how he came through in the clutch multiple times vs. players much higher ranked than him. It may be early, but this kid could be good.
And the best part is how British his name is! Just say it! Neil Pauffley
