Possibly the hardest of the 3 non-clay slams to retain as it comes right at the end of long and tiring season.

For me this was always Rafa's best chance of a slam outside RG. The extra zip his forehand gets of the Decoturf and the high bounce makes the conditions here ideal. Slow HC tends to favour Djokovic more and even big hitters like Wawrinka as we saw at the AO.

Can't see Rafa getting a better crack at the next two HC slams as he will here and in Australia. Hopefully no fi.... Suspicious draws as there so often at Wimbledon.

Djokovic - One of the greatest open era hard-court players the game has ever seen.

Murray - Fully back to full health, fitness and confidence, since returning from injury and has more than the game to beat Nadal on a hard-court over a best of 5.

Wawrinka - Matches up fine with Nadal, because his backhand can deal with the onslaught of 5 meter badminton net clearance with heavy whipped topspin.

Three players incredibly capabale of beating Nadal on a fairly fast hard-court. His chances of retaining/defending the title are little to none. He overachieved last year with Djokovic's absolute melt-down mentally in the final after his dozen chances to really have the match in his favour. This year, parity has been restored and the GOAT claycourter is winning his the French Open, but nothing more. This is where he belongs. One dimensional tennis does not pay on other surfaces. Stick to the dirt. :yeah:

WEll Nadal won USO 2x, 1st time with easy draw and best serve in his career, 2nd time was red hot confident after great summer and was helped by Djokochoke in F

So no he won´t add 3rd USO title - honestly can´t see him having 3 USO´s and Nole just 1 it would be joke really

The bigger question is whether people will finally get to see the GOAT rivalry match here. Those 2 are not getting any younger.

The best chance that they wind up on opposite sides of the draw now depends on whether he wins Wimbledon for the 8th time

Nadal should concentrate on staying healthy for AO and of course winning RG at least 3 more times, the rest is a bonus
We are all very lucky that this grass servebot nonsense is so short and soon to be over for good.

History also says that since the mid 1980s, no player has won multiple USO titles after turning 27.

Lendl won only one USO title after turning 27.
Agassi won only one USO title after turning 27.
Sampras won only one USO title after turning 27.
Federer won only one USO title after turning 27.
Nadal will only win one USO title after turning 27. Already happened last year.

We shall see. Nadal's game has markedly declined this year from last and he's never shown the ability to scrape out Slam wins while off peak form anywhere but at RG. Of course one should never count him out and he could still have a magical run at any time.

QF: Robredo SF: Gasquet was pretty special . I'm sure with a similar draw he could at least make the final again.
