Fognini is one of the worst matchups for Nadal. He usually has a lot of trouble when he plays against him.

On the other hand Schwartzmann is one of his turkeys. He is 9-0 against the argentinean and 22-2 in sets W/L.

Why does this happen? I would say that Schwartzmann and Fog are very similar players with similar styles.

Fognini is a bully and Diego is a normal person.
People is always scared of bullies and stalkers.

Finally some interesting topic comes up, again thanks to a relatively older poster here (in terms of join date, ofc).

Schwartzman is not like Fognini at all.

No comparison to be made. Schwartzman is 5'6 or whatever it is in centimeters. He cannot generate the same easy power that Fognini can nor is his gamestyle any similar.

Fabio stands almost everytime on the baseline or inside the court and can generate winners from everywhere. He also hits the ball very early, on the rise, against Nadal, taking away precious time from him. Schwartzman doesn't play like this, he often finds himself in defending positions, 3 or 4 meters behind the baseline. As Kowchi said, he also doesn't have Fabio's firepower.

The way he bullied Nadal in Monte Carlo was just superb. Poor Rafa, playing at 200% at one of his best tournaments ever, couldn't do anything.
In 2019 Rafa lost in the Semi-Finals of Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid, and you say he was playing at 200%?
Rafa said he was unable to practice his defense at the beginning of 2019 because his doctor told him to abbreviate his training because of the ankle surgery he had at the end of 2018.

Yeah I also can confrim, was next to him in Istanbul, was at least 8-9 cm shorter than me, I am 172.
Diego could literally go incognito at a GS if he wore a hat and casual clothes.

Sure, more excuses. 5-0 40-0.

Fognini has much better shots, Schwartzmann is more of a retriever, doesnt have the firepower to threaten Nadal

Both play him well.

But Fog is better.

One thing is for sure, Rafa beating Fognini in straight sets is a lot easier physically than beating Diego in straight sets.
Fognini donates a lot more points, whereas Diego will make Rafa work for every point and has probably cost Rafa some titles.

Dull made AO finals and stomped everyone till Djokovic showed up. He may of not been at his very best but he was still playing good and Fognini was simply better that day.

Yeah I know, but the poster said Rafa was 200%, when he wasn't even close to 100%, because his defense was not ready.
Rafa's offense was ready, that's why he destroyed all those guys at the AO, but you can't beat Djokovic/Fognini with offense alone, you have to play defense and turn the defense into offense.
Tsitsipas let Rafa off the hook at the AO, because if Tsitsipas had known Rafa's defense was not ready then Tsitsipas would have just moved Rafa around, but instead Tsitsipas tried to blast the ball into Rafa's body which give Rafa the chance to use the brilliant offense.
Rafa was attacking more than usual at that AO, and people were surprised, but he was doing it because he had no defense.
All you had to do was move Rafa around to reveal his lack of defensive training, and only Djokovic did that at the AO, and Fognini at Monte Carlo.
