The news that Rafael Nadal is set to return to the tennis court is great news for fans of the elite men’s game on Betfair.

The 26-year-old is one of the most powerful and talented players of his generation, forming a dominant quartet at the top of the men's game, alongside Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray.

However, the Spaniard has suffered from a succession of knee injuries over recent years and this latest blow threatened to wreck his entire career.

Nadal last played competitive tennis at Wimbledon in June, where world number 100, Lukas Rosol, stunned him.

Since then, he has been forced to pull out of tournament after tournament, seeing his world ranking slip to fourth as a result.

It was then discovered that he was suffering from with Hoffa syndrome, which is inflammation of the fatty tissue in his left knee.

His medical team then put him on a carefully managed rehabilitation programme and he revealed via his Facebook page last week that he had returned to the tennis court back in his native Mallorca.

Now, it has been confirmed that he will take part three-man exhibition event in December, in Abu Dhabi alongside Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

Should he come through that unscathed, then he will travel to the Qatar open, where he is pencilled in to be top seed.

Tennis fans collecting their Betfair Bonus will be crossing their fingers and hoping he does make it through these early comeback matches as his presence at the top of the game has been sorely missed.

His meticulously high standard of tennis drives the likes of Murray, Djokovic, and Federer to greater heights, making the game more entertaining for the fans.

It would be a great shame to see such a special talent robbed of a career due to injury.
