SURLY Scots tennis ace Andy Murray has finally agreed to enlist the help of an image expert to stop himself putting his foot in it.

Murray is Britain’s biggest tennis hope in years, but he has made enemies of some of the sport’s fans with his controversial behaviour.

And he has enlisted the help of former tabloid editor Stuart Higgins, the man widely credited with turning around model Kate Moss’ fortunes following her drug scandal.

Higgins managed to transform media coverage of Moss, 34, after she was slated and shunned, helping her make a comeback that saw her win a string of high-profile advertising contracts.

But the PR guru will have his work cut out for him, as Murray does not always enjoy unanimous patriotic backing of British supporters behind him.

He received large amounts of hate mail on his website after saying he would like to see “anyone except England” win the 2006 World Cup.

Then last month he pulled out of representing Britain in the Davis Cup, after suffering a painful knee injury.

At the time his brother Jamie, 22, said he was “disappointed” at his withdrawal from the Argentina match, and even criticised his committment.

But the pair, who are both close friends and rivals, sorted out their differences before Andy later landed his second ATP title of the season just a week later.

Andy is also regarded as sullen with journalists.

And his temper tantrums have not gone down well among middle-class tennis followers.

When playing a doubles match with Greg Rusedski, Murray incurred a £1,300 fine for abusing the umpire live on TV with foul language.

Not only have his image own goals cost him support from the stands, but they undermine his sponsorship and advertising earnings potential.

But for years he has firmly shunned any PR help - until now.

Murray and his agent Patricio Apey decided a new approach was needed and put the challenge out to offers, before plumping for Stuart Higgins Communications.

PR guru Higgins and Apey have known each other for eight years.

Murray recently revealed hot yoga as the secret of his victory over world number one Roger Federer.

He produced the greatest result of his career when he beat the five-time Wimbledon champion in the first round of the Dubai International earlier this month.

Afterwards Andy told how hot yoga helped him hone the mental strength he needed to come back from being a set down early in the match.

Hot yoga involves special exercises and breathing techniques, in sweltering conditions, to help focus the mind.

He has sold out.

They should have hired Marcelo Rios or Muster, it would have been a better fit for Murray.

he could have just gotten a haircut and saved a ton of money. secondly, only he can fix his image. his body language is pathetic and he bitches like a bitch sometimes. once again, save a ton of money and just conduct yourself like Fed on the court. cool, calm, composed, and confident. never let your opponents see you sweat.

He is a clown for doing this, seriously. Just another one trying to fake it, but we'll see.

I hope you are not right about this, but somehow I'm not sure. First of all, I like Murray as a player, and I never had any problems with his personality. Sure, he said stupid things, but he is too young, he'll learn. I really don't want him to be fake.

Too bad, he really started growing on me when he said that he cheered against England during the 2006 World Cup, nothing wrong for a Scot to say that :p

If him hiring an image expert is true, then he is kidding himself.

He is there to win matches primarily. I'd rather be himself good or bad and take it however I choose, just like these guys, Rios, Muster, Berdych, Nalbandian, Davydenko, Medvedev, Kafelnikov, Söderling, Gaudio. They might not be the most loved, but at least they are themselves and don't need some PR agent.

has Fed made any additional remarks? i do recall now that he said that Murray plays too defensive or something along those lines. that was clearly uncalled for by Fed. i dont know what Fed was thinking when he said that.

British press hates him(Fed) for it.

The first thing this image experts has to "fix" is the fact that Murray resorted to hiring an image expert! :tape: A new low for Murray.

Fed watch out - Murray beats you on the court and after this image expert does his magic on Murray he'll be taking your spot in GQ/Vogue.

Now Fed not only has to worry about loosing his #1 spot to Nadal or Djoke or who ever but about Murray becoming the new "hot" guy of the ATP

Oh yeah, everybody watch out: here comes sexxxy Murray! (I guess the new makeover would include the removal of the bushy brows, the tombstone teeth, the Raggedy Ann hairdo, the knobby knees, and voilà, a new sex symbol is born! Oh, don't forget, the hangdog expression, the whining, the bitchy grumbling, and the cursing would have to go too.)

Everyone kept talking about Murray to be an asshole. I like players with a temper on a court so tried to prove them wrong up until he's sworn at us (photographers) several times very loud and clearly. It doesn't change my attitude(not that I normally like to hear smth like get f*cked) still think he's the talented and clever player.

The swearing in Dubai was out of control. The Eurosport commentator was clearly appalled saying "there are children on the stands. Clearly Andy is aware of that. He has to stop [swearing]". But Andy of course is too important for that!
