Come on guys! I can be as snarky as anyone, but this place has gone overboard.

Someone like Fognini deserves everything that is said about him and then some. He has all of the talent in the world, but completely dissipates crowds by not even trying either on or off of the court. However, I couldn't believe that the Nadal-Smyczek thread turned into pages worth of yet another Nadal-Federer debate. It seems that every thread on here somehow turns into a top ten fanboy/hater thread, but even I was surprised that this occurred yet again. Doesn't that ever bore some people who actually like talking about the game itself?

I wish that MTF would just every once in awhile appreciate the grinders of the game who pour their heart and soul into a sport that gives them very little in return. Someone like Nadal is infinitely more talented than someone like Smyczek, and even Tim knows it. That said, would it have killed MTF to be even the least bit humanistic towards a guy like Smyczek who practices 5+ hours a day (I've seen him practice for hours immediately after losing a challenger qualifying match), has gotten so much out of a smaller frame, who always fights on the court, and who is always pleasant to both opponents and fans? Whether on Rod Laver or on the sidewalk of a sparsely attended challenger event that he just lost in, someone like Smyczek who just immensely loves this game and all of those who support it is the lifeblood of this sport.

Instead of praising someone who deserved every bit of accolades that might have come to him, the only posts that I read regarding Smyczek were that "He was stupid to concede that serve to Nadal" or that "He respects the top players' talent too much" or that "It isn't American to clap at other people's winners." Shameful. What is wrong with working your ass off (even with limited talent that has you ranked outside of the top 100) and being even remotely nice to people? I guess it is "cooler" to just be given everything, act like you don't care, and ignore everyone who can't directly help you.

I really hope that the moderators will leave this thread up, as MTF needs to check itself a bit and realize that there are a lot of wonderful players and sportsmen outside of the top ten who contribute so much to this sport.

Yeah, it would have killed the more sober part of MTF.
He behaved like a pussy, and deep down he knows that.

What "contribution" did this evolve in your opinion? That another former Top100 try-hard wannabe bowed down to the great Nadal, who ruthlessly uses all chances to shape his image of a great fighter, just to build upon that fake humbleness?
It has been said so many times here, just really-really boring to reiterate.

Rafito should earn our respect by real victories and gentleman acts, not that fake struggling. It's waaaaaaaay tooooooooo booooooooring. Nuff said

You are an idealist. Never late to grow up and accept reality.

There is no thread that cannot be turned into another Nadal - Federer debate.

It would be nice, but this is what happens when you have a site made up of mostly Fed/Rafa/Nole/Murray fans.

MTF would be useless without its excessive snark and cynicism. Look at advanced discussion forum which updates at a blistering pace of one post a week.

The OP's reasonable post was immediately followed by the nonsense he was discussing in the first place unfortunately...

I guess that's the answer to your question.

Big (and disgusting) words from a little internet tough guy. The basic problem is that for the sake of traffic, the site allows this sort of thing all the time. Stuff like this would be banned on a lot of other forums actually and with good reason.

We have a lot of people on here who actually think they are fighting conspiracy theories and battling injustice in the form of tennis players and the ATP.

The internet allows these people to do their thing without the immediate beat down they would get in other arenas of life.

Yeah, a guy calling an athlete losing in 5 sets to Nadal a "pussy" while he sits in the dark on his computer. Laughable.

I find it extremely refreshing compared to the hug-fest that is tennis "media."
You find it "refreshing" that some internet nobody can call guys who train their asses off a "pussy" and people can spread conspiracy theories so ludicrous that they wouldn't even be given a moment's thought by anyone outside of internet cranks.

Seriously.

Top class sport provokes emotion.

Without fanboys/haters tennis would be in serious trouble.
It's true that sport provokes emotion but the kind of ways in which that emotion gets expressed can be very reasonable or outrageous or somewhere in between.

Way too often in here players (obviously a few in particular) are disrespected beyond the point of just not liking a player and expressing an opinion. It's more like what might find on "New World Order" websites and conspiracy sites.

Rules and moderation can have a lot to do with curbing that.

Take an English lesson mate, even if you meant to say "huge ass insecure" it doesn't make sense.

OP: obviously you are right. MTF is a sewer. But I'm afraid there's no stopping it now.
