Safin coming back from injury, winning thrillers left, right and center defeating almost every American in the draw. Incredible.

Costa killing himself in an attempt to defend his title. Costa was pretty useless following his win the year prior and he gained a lot of respect by fighting as hard as any player I've ever seen in 2003. He was in absolutely horrendous form for quite some time prior to that. The only other notable result was a semi-final appearance in Miami, I think.
