Too bad for Rublev to crash out so early from home, but Kyrgios' serving numbers are always dangerous despite his usual clowning. 25 Aces, 70% 1st serves in, 80% won.

Basic next, hopefully Nick can keep it together for more than 48 hours and make a deep run but sadly he doesn't look like he's on a mission here or anything like that.

NK was in complete control, while Rublev struggled on every service game of his. And then the former decided there was too much cruising and not enough challenge and clowning and rushed to fix that...

The atrociousness of Rublev's serve is not new, so it can't be attributed to his recent injury. But perhaps his back is persistently troublesome? Wonder if anyone here knows.
If it's not a reoccurring issue, I can't think of any semi reasonable explanation to the phenomenon, other than his coach, a clay court specialist in the past, not giving a damn about serving. You really need to have something special for Thug to hit multiple return winners in one game.

Kyrgios outdid himself in this match, he challenged an "in" call on his first serve, which is not that rare, but that was after Rublev's return went out :spit: He still won the point.
