Horacio doesn't like these 1000 tournaments, will play the Euro clay, maybe Winston Salem, and then the US Open.

European and South American players deride Americans for skipping the clay season...then do the exact same thing come July and August.

I never complain about Americans skipping clay season, more opportunity for South American to get points. Horacio and Carlos Berlocq will skip this tournament, not sure about the rest.

Zeballos was not in the MD. Americans skip Montecarlo, Madrid, Rome and RG even if they are in the MD sometimes (!!!)

Choosing a famous frenchman in Quebec sounds good.

Re: Montreal Entry List (updated June 29, 2013)

Hopefully that is the only one wasted on a non-Canadian.
If it had to be a non-Canadian getting a wildcard, at least they gave it to an entertainer. But who knows? He might pull out (its Monfils, I mean come on lol) and we might get 4 Canadian WC's anyway. Last year we only had 3 wildcards (Pospisil, Polansky, Dancevic). This year's possibilities are...

Who I think will get in

Vasek Pospisil: Pretty much a lock
Jesse Levine: As much as I would like him to wait a year as he only changed citizenship this year, he's a good chance
Frank Dancevic: Again pretty much a lock as long as he doesn't get injured (again)

Other possibilities...

Peter Polansky: He's had one before, but he's too inconsistent, give him a QWC
Steven Diez: Again, give him a QWC, he's more of a clay guy
Filip Peliwo: QWC material. Rising up and comer.
Erik Chvojka: Same reasons as Polansky
Philip Bester: Probably QWC for him

Other guys that have potential to get QWC

Hugo Di Feo: Promising junior
Brayden Schnur: Another promising junior with promising results lately
George Jecminek: Decent results lately

What are your opinions?

I agree with you, except I think it is unlikely Chvojka will get one, so that leave the other 4. It is nice to have deserving players that we can pick from. it was only a couple years ago we had White and Krainek get in there

Hoped it would go to Hewitt. I guess Rusty isn't playing this then...

http://www.radio-canada.ca/sports/tennis/2013/08/01/001-tennis-atp-coupe-rogers-montreal-tommy-robredo-espagne.shtml

Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray began training in Montreal, while the Spaniard Tommy Robredo withdraws to the Rogers Cup.

Nadal, fourth in the world rankings and the Wimbledon champion has typed their first shots on center court Jarry Tennis Complex Thursday. Murray emerging from a period of rest, vacation in the Bahamas after his historic victory. Nadal was eliminated in the first round in London.

Meanwhile, Robredo, 23rd World racket, warned organizers that said package. He will be replaced in the main draw by Brésilen Thomaz Bellucci, the 115th player in the world.

This is the second package, after that of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The French is replaced by Czech Radek Stepanek in the 51st ATP. The tournament director Eugene Lapierre still awaiting a decision from Roger Federer.

July 28, Robredo won the tournament in Zagreb, the 12th of his career and his second in 2013 (after Casablanca), with an easy victory over Italian Fabio Fognini.

The tournament begins Saturday at Jarry Park in Montreal.

Re: Montreal Entry List (updated August 1, 2013)

how is sponsors exemption determined

i think its based on who is still playing in previous weeks tourny that is also signed up to play in that weeks qualies so would be based on friday end of day

then what happens when theres more than 1 of those guys (and there are 2 tournys currently going)

i would assume highest ranked but from what date - date for initial entry to main draw? or date for qualifying draw? or current last rankings?

seems to me that several are still alive but some have to win 2 more before saturday and some have to win 1 in case of kitzbuhel

washington has in no set order

dodig
matosevic
tursonov (not in the qualifying so i would think he'd be out)

kitzbuhel - neither seems to be entered in qualies

montanes
haase

my question is not just for this week - includes general on how its determined

thanks

Can't get a SE(Special Exemption) for a 1000 by playing in a 250 the week prior so only those playing Saturday in Washington are eligible.

If you are playing the day qualies begin in a tournament that is eligible for a SE for that tournament then the highest ranked players eligible get them

1000 tournament SE you can get by another 1000 or a 500
500 SE's you can get from 1000's or other 500's
250 SE you can get by playing in any ATP tournament(tour level)
Challenger SE you can get by playing in an ATP tournament or by playing in a challenger in the same geographic location(if there are none in the same geographic location then any location the following week is fine)

If there are more players eligible for a SE than SE spots available then the highest ranked players get them
