Ferrer was solid today, a lot better than he was in Valencia for sure and was just too steady and focused.

Safin was very poor today, he must not like early matches. As well as he played yesterday, he wasn't up to par at all. Made too many errors of both sides, smashed the racquet, talking with Bernandes and Karlberg ATP supervisor about bad line calls.

15-0 when Ferrer served in the last game, there was a bit of a sideshow with Safin and the umpire over a ballmark.

Bah...

Not that I thought Safin had much chance in this one, but I would expect him to play and behave decent today.

That said, Ferrer is looking impressive.

Marat 52 unforced errors in 17 games = 3 per game (first set 31 ue's in 8 games = 4 per game)
Imagine if he played like that against Calleri of yesterday. Marat would have won 34-32 in the 3rd set TB.

Today's Safin will always struggle against strong, steady, consistent players since he can no longer hit winners as freely as in the past. It's good to see Pics finding some good form though.

Safin would struggle with pics on clay even at the top of his game.
