Monte-Carlo R2: Federer def. Chardy 6-2, 6-1

Fed was doing well until 6-2, 2-0 when he brainfarted and donated back the service break. Not the best performance as Chardy was simply garbage today, but it's his first match on clay since Davis Cup. Hopefully he can build on this and get better. Too many times he was in control of the rallies only to hit it long. He needs to improve on that and show more variety. All in all a win is a win.

Nice performance Fed. :yeah:Except that one poor game in the second, Federer was great. Nice to see him hit more topspin and flat returns. It will certainly help against Nadal and maybe Djokovic too. Watching Fed play on clay is such a joy.

Chardy's double faults were NID :smash:. Not really much of a clutch bone in his body at times...
Federer just doing what he had to do to win it, turned out to be easier than expected.

Federer looked solid today. Backhand held up well, moved well around the clay court AND was very aggressive of his return which he got a quite a few winners from it.

Chardy however served atrocious and it wasn't his day today where ballbashing and attempting to redline just didn't work.

Federer was average today. He controlled most of the match until the second set blip, but really was nid for the win. Hard to judge his overall form until the monte quarters.
