Too much funk from Flo. He played an intelligent match frustrating the big man Isner.

Only used the donkey kick dropshot rarely, but what a sexy shot it is.

Re: Miami R4: Flo Mayer def. Isner 6-4 6-2

Yes. Isner is overrated. Florian is a beautiful player. What else is new?

I know that Isner will always compete, but he had no business playing in tonight's match. He should have withdrawn as others had suggested beforehand. That said, congrats to Mayer for having a solid turnaround week thus far.

You make strong/psychotic/judgmental statements about everything and everyone. That never changes either.

Isner was pathetic, Mayer was solid.

Isner shouldn't bother, in the next 3 months he's got almost nothing to defend, so very likely will be a Top 10 player after Wimbledon.

Expected result. Mayer's game is a bad matchup for a poor mover like Isner.

While Isner is no Safin, Florian sure pulled a Fabrice on him. He looked like he's pull out his hair if it was long enough.

The American tournament organizers/schedulers should have their heads examined.
Why is their hottest American player playing at 10:30 pm? He looked totally asleep out there.
They deserve what they got.

No doubt it was far more important to get 2 WTA wild cards out there in the middle of the day taking almost 3 hours to finish a 3 set match.

Mr. Nadal should now have clear sailing to the title.

Respectfully,
masterclass

Spot on. This was almost up there with him playing that entire match with De Bakker the day after finishing that marathon against Mahut. He gains nothing by competing in such circumstances.

That probably wouldn't have mattered if John wasn't serving like Cipolla.
He wasn't serving that bad the first set, but Flo slicing at his knees seemed to frustrate him.

Great comparison! When Florian is on he can play a style so crafty and unorthodox that it does conjure up images of "The Magician" to a large extent. :wavey:

This is intensely idiotic.
Venus several time Grandslam champion, and American, and on the comeback from ailment and injury- everyone wanted to see her.

Flo obviously is a bad match-up for someone like Isner with his game, but John brought nothing to the table today. The serve stats weren't great vs Davydenko, so that really was more of a tell tale sign for things to come, and it came in this match. John simply had zero in the tank, wasn't able to give anywhere near 100% of himself physically, and was not comfortable from the beginning. Great match from Mayer regardless, however. Flo continues to tread unnoticed but has a very good record in Miami and these courts suit his game.
