And what's even more pathetic is that the match wasn't even over when you started the thread.

Anyway, Marin!!! What was that? Nice one.

Good point. His results are really disappointing lately.
Congrats, Mathieu ...
How exactly to people know he choked? Mathieu did DF to go down the break in the third in the first place. "choked" is more overused in this forum than "mug" - that's really saying something
outchoking a choker. takes skills. well done :retard:

Almost everyone who loses nowadays "chokes" according to GM - especially if someone lost money on the match  Having said that, I was following the scoreboard, and it does look a bit like Marin got very nervous in the closing stages, but that's not entirely surprising for a young guy. I'm sure he'll gain in confidence with more expereince. Marin
Using the word choke about someone who was up a break in a decisive set is not inappropriate.

It is when it was an early break and no one saw the match. If you see the match and see he choked that's one thing, but to go from 3*-1 to 3-2* is quite often NOT a choke. Plus the scoreboard was DOWN for several games in the third :haha: I mean whatever, I just think it's hilarious that people can tell what happened in a match that no one saw

Totally agree with you. Service breaks happen, they aren't necessarily chokes. Some of these guys out there on the ATP actually have some pretty good returning skills. Holding serve isn't automatic. Now if he had two double faults to give the break, or missed some easy shots, that would be a choke, but every break is not a choke (except at MTF).

The thing is that Mathieu won 6 of the last 7 games. He is not known for his serve neither for his winners, also Cilic is young so a choke in this instance is rather probable.
Strange match for following the SB. PHM up a break in first set and loses the set. Cilic up 3:0 in third and game point for 4:1 and loses the match.
My only slight doubt for Cilic was that Mathieu's class might show at the crucial moments...pity he wasn't able to hold on in the 3rd set.
