This was an ugly win to put it mildly  Still, Coric finally got the job done and lives to fight another day against Chardy next round. The draw looks kind for him to reach another Miami QF but his error-prone game :help:

To quote the otherwise annoying match commentator, Coric was a "model of inconsistency" today. (That's been the case more often than not this year so far.) He couldn't get more than one or two parts of his game clicking at the same time early on but scraped through the TB...

Then it all fell apart in the middle set, which - having already missed chances for an early break - Coric effectively conceded after the double break  He actually had a game point to avert the bagel but lost it meekly, after the chair umpire had coaxed him to put in more effort during the previous changeover.

It felt like Coric didn't actually want to serve first in the decider and, as he broke RCB right after, it worked. He was finally playing more freely and his groundies finding the mark rather than sailing wide or long. Had a nervy game to close out the match, including 2 DFs, but dragged himself over the finish line.

Borna is that kind of a player that the current ranking system suits him well.

Doesn't play sh*t for a long a time, but sometimes he gets an easy draw and feeds this modus operandi for a couple of months.

One of the worst players to watch when he's not in a good form, that's almost 6 months per year.
