Melzer having a bit of a resurgence, it seems. Nice player, but has a few issues upstairs. :lol:

Has an outside chance in the final against (most probably) Raonic, considering that he was able to beat Isner earlier this week. He does tend to struggle in the big matches, though.

Not a bad week for Sexy, although it is unlikely that we'll read too much about him for the next few months. IW and Miami are usually tricky events for him, and then it is European clay. He isn't getting any younger...

I think someone mentioned he could win with without playing a top 25 player. Meanwhile, for Llodra to win Marseille(worth half as much), he'd have to beat 3 top 20's, 2 of them top 10s (he beat Dolgo and Tipsy, still has to play Del Po). Ridiculous.

Sure, it doesn't attract the same quality of players as you'd see in the other '500' events.

However, I like that it gives a chance for the next 'tier' of ranked players (#20s+) to earn significant points, which can really boost the season for at least four of them. I would have enjoyed a week's pass to this event, although maybe I'm slightly biased as I prefer matches involving players like these.

I find this draw a lot more interesting than the Dubai one, for example. As I posted in that draw thread, two of the SF-ists are obviously very predictable and, for the other two, the QF matches are predictable. The early couple of rounds will be a snooze-fest as the top players will decimate the rest of the field, and the latter rounds will feature match-ups that we have seen many times. :shrug:


We haven't had Washington yet, anyway. The Olympics is going to render it the weakest field of the '500' events this season.

You're right, it's a good thing.
Memphis annoys me due to old venue (everything is out-of-date, roof, rails, seats :facepalm. This, plus weak field makes this tournament laughable. I'd prefer San Jose as a '500' tournament.

Is that what it actually is for the rest of the year, or is it really a purpose-built venue? :scratch:

As for people complaining about this tournament's status, well, a nice opportunity for players to pick up some easy points when a lot of other (top) players decide to play elsewhere. Can't blame them for that.

BTW, what happened in Memphis that doubles match has been suspended?
