Marseille QF: Marion Ancic def. Robin Soderling 6-3 (4)6-7 6-2

Play by the book from Super Mario. 25 Aces, lots of service winners, every once in a while coming to net with an excellent touch volleys just to break up a rhythm. Mean Swede Toad Machine fought back in 2nd set and took that one with a clutch play in TB. Slow start for Mario in 3rd, he had to save BP in 2nd game, but after that he managed to broke Soderling in 5th and 7th game an close the deal with routine service games. Obviously Ancic ain't Gasquet. :p

25 aces, just 1 bp conceded.

Two amazing volleys for his two breaks in the 3rd set.

Like it or not, Ancic played like a Top 10 player today.

Definitly top 10.

Just don't get injured Mario - you deserve that top 10 spot every bit as much as Gasquet or Murray, talent wise. Some impressive serving today. And he's so cute, too.

Too big from Mario....

What is admirable in his game is that he's not afraid to actually attack on BPs, not just wait for his opponent to crumble or give him a DF.

:bigclap: Impressive stuff from Mario, and he has reached his first SF since he won the title at St Petersburg at 2006.

Besides the 2nd break on the 1st set, which was a double fault, Ancic attacked Soderling's serve on bp and finished the point on the net with a volley.

Soderling actually played well, but Mario was simply too good, as he would be for about 90% of the Top 100 today.

Did his weird service motion, his little steps and his 6'5" confuse his opponent ?
