Re: Marseille Entry List/Fact Sheet (updated January 12, 2009)

He's taking a WC away from the others, one more time.

Caujolle said the other 2 WC are not decided yet, the other options are Clément, Chardy, Mahut, Davydenko (?)... Clément is having the edge atm.

Safin could have enter directly the draw but it's nice to see him there.

Chardy can still hope a direct entry, Davydenko  well everybody don't care of him in france, Mahut could be nice since he comes back from injury and Clement i think the tournament have to give one WC to a player belonging to the "ligue de provence"(it's the reason he gave last year to explain the WC for Guez and not for Santoro) but Caujolle doesn't talk about this obligation here. I only hope that they won't choose Davydenko

If all these top want to play they have to enter the draw  OK for one WC to Marat but that's it. There are many nice french players and the field is already very good.

Yes, I just saw that too, that's what I was going to post.
Yahoo is not reliable anyway.
Why is everybody asking for WC this year and not entering the events in time? Are the rules harsher now when they withdraw from an event?

Commitment players who enter & withdraw from 500-events receive zero-pointers for those events (unless they travel to the event to do promotional activities). I'm not aware of any substantive rule changes regarding withdrawals from 250 events (i.e. Marseille).

Nicholas Mahut, sidelined since November with a shoulder injury, plans to make his season debut by playing doubles in Marseille, followed by singles at some challengers and then Miami in March."It was difficult, especially when I saw all the others leave for Australia and found myself alone in Paris," said the Frenchman of his delayed start to the season.

After being dropped by Guillaume Peyre (for Richard Gasquet) and Olivier Soules (for Marcos Baghdatis) over the past year, Mahut is now working with Lionel Zimbler.

Hopefully Chardy will be able to get in the main draw? Will his rankings be elevated from the current 74?

No, he'll need two withdrawals or a wild-card, his current ranking doesn't matter to enter Marseille.

Cilic will cancel marseille because he has already won two atp250 titles and can t get more points on this level of tournaments.
