Agut is a problem for Medevev because he doesn't give DM anything to work with. He pretty much puts the ball back in play forcing DM to have to create winning plays for himself. That is the trick to beating DM, don't go aggressively to him, he loves to counter aggression, when you make him have to make develop the winning play, he struggles and looks like a basic player.

Three grass tournaments, 2 finals and a QF might sound good. But..

Three grass tournaments, three losses with very bad scorelines for Medvedev.
yes. The manner in which he lost these 3 matches is not expected on grass. Not even one of these sets went to tiebreaker. He has lost 6-4 6-1, 6-1 6-4,, 6-3 6-2.

That was a mix of Medvedev finally running out of gas/interest after three tournaments in three weeks and a bad matchup for him. I wouldn’t read too much into this one performance

However, in general it’s also true that his level is nowhere near what it was from August-January. He’s bailing out of too many points with the drop shots because he doesn’t trust his consistency with his groundstrokes right now and his serve is just not working at the same level. It used to be one of the absolute best in the world and now it’s just good.

Of course, the second half of the year is always significantly better for Medvedev so we’ll see if it’s just a function of him not yet playing on his most comfortable surfaces.

It’s not just for grass season. RG, Geneva, and Miami all he got straightsetted.

From my point of view, the most problematic thing is his serve. His serve has been non existent since USO. It’s not after AO choke.

Medvedev should be grateful for being banned in Wimbledon. He can save himself from an embarrassment there. Winning five games against washed up RBA who hasn’t had any meaningful result in 3 years is pathetic.
He can go practice for the US HC Swing now. It’s his most successful chunk of the season

Was still good till the end of the last year; only got broken twice at the YEC before the final (where he got broken twice more to lose 6-3 6-4 in an uninspired performance). Struggling with it since the start of this season though, was up and down at the AO already before the final.

It's getting more and more clear that this guy only excels (really excels though) at US hard courts or indoor hard courts.
Everywhere else he just seems average and his style of play just harmless.
He reached 2 grass finals because there are very few players that can actually be decent on grass. I'd always expect him to lose to Agut or Hurkacz on grass, but not van Rijthoven, that really showed his level is really not vert high.

The fact that he is #1 just shows how poor the level of the tour currently is.

RBA is a good player on grass but Medvedev should not be losing 6-3 6-2
RBA is mediocre at best on grass.

Medvedev simply lacks creativity and technical skill to dominate on grass. I'm not surprised he has already done better on clay, because then he gets more time to defend (the entire court).

Was very unlikely Kate Middleton would have been handing trophy to Meddy. He seems so basic these days, maybe its just he is fast HC specialist, maybe he hasn't recovered from AO choke who knows? If he has bad results in Canada /Cinci I'd be worried. Congrats to Agut he seems to like the grass , he may well win the event.
