I always assumed Nadal would play this tournament. Will he really skip it or take a wildcard last minute?

Not sure he will play.
He hasn't played between FO and Wimbledon since 2015, so he knows how to prepare Wimbledon only with training (even if he did play sometimes some exhos the week before Wimbledon)

This year there is only 2 weeks between the 2 events, and it will probably have small crowd in Mallorca only.

And he usually plan his schedule well in advance, not the kind of guy who takes a last-minute WC. His last WC was in Buenos Aires '16 after his R1 exit against against Verdasco in AO.

Yeah that all makes sense. I just always assumed he would play this tournament. In a normal situation with 3 weeks between the slams he could then go home to Mallorca and stay there for the 3 weeks before Wimbledon, and use this tournament for his preparation. Plus Uncle Toni runs the tourney (I think?) and thought he would want to support his home tournament. But obviously this year is different with only two weeks between the slams, so yeah I shouldn't be surprised.

Why is Istomin on this list twice?
Possibly a protected ranking, I've just checked that site and the first one has been removed. Denis is now only on the alternates list at position 5, as 187 (seeded ranking) and 204 (entry ranking).
The more funny thing is why is Denis on the entry list here? It's the only grass court tournament he has entered and has just lost in the first round of the Almaty Challenger on clay.

for now at least djokovic has wc for doubles
no partner listed and nothing for singles yet
Him and his team have said multiple times that he will not be playing singles there as the surface is completely different to Wimbledon. However, the tournament manager said yesterday that the surface is identical.
On the note of the doubles, rumour has it that he will be playing with his brother Marko.
