Clinical serving from Gulbis, all around solid performance. Hopefully he makes it deep here, maybe even the final?

Better player with more variety won. Gulbis was good, but Mugrin and his 1st service were nowhere to be found. Hopefully he gets Ferrer in QF.

I really want to punch Gulbis in the face every time he complains about flash and/or camera clicking - it's absolutely ridiculous and annoying. Has any other player complained about flash..ever? Get a grip and concentrate on your game, you mug. He complained about it at least 10 times in that first set - absurd behavior.

Great serving from Gulbis, totally comfortable. Should have been an easier scoreline, little lazy perhaps not to finish it off more comprehensively.

Cilic is having problems with his serve mechanics lately, ended up with 37%fs here. You could see it frustrating him - one first serve he aimed wide actually went outside the doubles lines (as well as being a country mile long), and went on to gift away the break there as a result.

Cilic confirming himself as the biggest vulture in world of tennis. Last time he overcame an in form was still at juniors. The funniest thing that this improved serve is even worse than it was, now he seems convinced his serve is a weapon so he is forcing it even more and putting even less first ones in, and on second delivery which actually was pretty reliable and good shot he became a DF machine. Goran was never the brightest tool in the box but at least was always honest and talking from heart so his nonsenses about Cilic being top 5 potential are pretty sad to listen

Marin only started playing after he was already down a break in the second set. Ernie was just too solid though, served great and didn't give Marin much of a chance. Expected result anyway, Gulbis is a better clay court player.

Cilic missing another opportunity to finally make a deep run at a Masters level event. Gulbis played well though, especially on serve, and will have a great chance to make SF if Ferrer wins later, Isner on the other hand would probably frustrate and beat him via tiebreaks again.

so Cilic's inability to make a decent win on biggest stages are missed opportunities but Ferrer's SF and F defeats at the same stage makes him vulture ?

Solid match by Gulbis, great serving and aggression - adding Marin's awful % of serve - the result is pretty much generous

It's a fine refreshment to see 2 good matches in a row from Ernests

Keep it coming GOAT :sport:
