Well the turning point of this match is Berdych's second serve barely catching the line on BP at 4-4 in the first set. Good performance from both overall, though Tsonga especially was inconsistent.

Re: Madrid R2 - [6] Berdych def. [12] Tsonga 7-5 6-2

Tsonga did enough this tournament to remain ahead of Monfils in the rankings.

Luckier player won.
Good match. Berdych will easily win vs Kyrgios/Isner, because both are/should be good matchups for him.

Tsonga was playing really well in the 1st set, then I guess the knee starts acting up and loses the serve to love.

2nd set was closer than the score indicates.

This match could've had a different outcome if Tsonga had broken at 4-4 in the first set.

Another quarter-final for Berdman, with a probable semi-final/potential final looming.

Sadly predictable. Tsonga had his chances in the first set, but after he lost it then it was all Berd.

How does it feel supporting a player that always loses his matches? :)

Gasquet in R2 and Tsonga in R3, both solid opponents to have early. Good win for Berdy  Continues his quarter final (or better) streak this year :)

At least Berd's beating so-called "mediocre" players ;)
Btw, the average rank of their opponents they faced before the QF stage in tournaments this year (including this one): Tomas-54.6 Roger-53.3
Not much difference
It's actually a big difference since Federer is ranked higher and therefore should have easier draws.

Fair enough on that point  Calculated the average rank of opponents in rounds before QF stage of tournaments (inc. current one) for the Top 9
Djoky 64.5 (5th)
Rogie 53.3 (2nd)
Muzza 98.6 (9th)
Rafa 72.3 (6th)
Kei 54.8 (4th)
Milos 50.1 (1st)
Berdy 54.6 (3rd)
Ferrer 72.4 (7th)
Stan 81.2 (8th)
