Not a bad performance by Roger considering that it was his 1st match since US Open, in fact he's hit some nice winners there. Robby wasn't bad, it's just not his level

Now, time for an Argie encounter

Ginepri did produce some nice penetrating groundies, but he missed too many of them... strong looking fellow, that Robby

Awesome play by Robby, that was his best match in years. Ginepri had some chances in the first, and a chance to break back in the second but Fed was too good. Hopefully Ginepri gets a better draw in Paris...I think he could progress really far if that's the case. Fed looked really good although he had to play well, Ginepri was playing like a top 20 guy.

This Federer is all serve. If he doesn't find the timing on his forehand soon, especially on the run, he could be in a world of hurt the next match.

Fed's plan to blend into the background with that bland outfit worked, causing Robby to get confused on crucial points.

Ginepri has performed well at Madrid the past few years, just unfortunate he ran into Federer so soon. Federer looking good for his first match back, but should raise his game a few levels over the next few rounds.

Wow, aren't you a bit overreacting? Some strokes were nice and some sweet 2005 forehand crosscourt memories came back, but he hardly ever could do anything with the backhand and his serve wasn't that good as well. But on the other hand, you often look like newbie playing against Roger :)

Fed played pretty well for being his 1st match in a long time. I think Fed plays better indoors where the wind is not a factor for his precise shots.

The fact was adler, that this was definately one of his best matches since his ongoing dip, and that is undeniable.

Ginepri can live with the best of them.

I didn't watch this match yet - my kids are watching Star Wars so I tivo'd it...why was it even as close as it was? Given Ginepri's form of late, I'd have expected a blow-out.

Saving that first set point was one of the best rallies I've seen all year. Excellent stuff, too bad it ended with an error

Because Federer only played as well as he needed to to win, and Robby was playing like it was the USO, I suppose. Not to take anything away from Robby, I'm sure he put in the effort, but I wonder if Fed was treating this like a workout in some ways since it was his first match in a few weeks.

Ginepri didn't want to get humiliated so played much better than he has been lately. Also, he probably thought he had a chance against a rusty Fed so kept his focus.

Entertaining match even though the result was never in doubt! Ginepri was playing well and the crowd was behind him :yeah:.

Yep, Fed's timing on the FH is still not good, on the other hand, he did hit some really nice half volleys from inside the baseline, much to Ginepri's dismay who probably expected his nice counterattacking FH CC would draw an error from Fed. But Fed still can play well from inside the field, which requires great reflexes if your opponent is giving you deep shots with pace like Robby was trying (with not much success though)
