Hmm, well only if he actually wins something in md - if he'd translated his 12-1 [correction, now 13-1] run against 100+ players (plus 5-2 vs top 50; 3-5 vs 51-100) into a few challenger wins, he could be close to top 50 by now. Instead will either have to qualify or get a wc for RG and perhaps beyond...Nice win for the Kokk.
He continues to justify his decision to play ATP qualifying instead of challengers.
Well one can admire his effort. Not easy to do it this way. But at the same time he is building good competitive match experience in vying for a place in MDs. I'm sure it'll benefit him in the long run.Hmm, well only if he actually wins something in md - if he'd translated his 12-1 run against 100+ players (plus 5-2 vs top 50; 3-5 vs 51-100) into a few challenger wins, he could be close to top 50 by now. That is an extremely short sited way of looking at things. Sure he could have got his ranking a fair bit higher by playing a few challengers but he is a much better player for having played all these ATP matches. At 19 years old development of his game is much, much more important than an extra 30 or so places in the ranking. You don't become a better player simply by improving your ranking but if you do become a better player you will improve your ranking as a consequence.Hmm, well only if he actually wins something in md - if he'd translated his 12-1 run against 100+ players (plus 5-2 vs top 50; 3-5 vs 51-100) into a few challenger wins, he could be close to top 50 by now. In last decade, only one ATPer has had a perfect quals season with 10+ matches--Gulbis in 2013 (11-0). Kokkinakis one set away from 13-0.
That's outstanding from Thanasi! :worship:Statistic worth noting:

Nope. 101. He needs a R1 win here to get into the TOP100.Good win for Thanasi. Hopefully this should put him in top 100. There's a possibility of him facing Kyrgios in the 1st round for a place against Federer in R2. That would be great!
Very close. He deserves top 100 for how well he's done in the qualies.Nope. 101. He needs a R1 win here to get into the TOP100.
