Kuala Lumpur R1: Davydenko def. Harrison 6-3 6-2

Scoreline doesn't reflect the tenor of the match totally as a lot of the games were very tight, but Davy hit the ball quite well, cleanly, played on the baseline and was more assertive than he has been, returned well. Both really struggled on serve, Harrison won 41% of service points, Davy right around half.

The biggest difference in the match was the crispness from the back of the court in Davydenko's shots, and the difference in BH quality. Harrison misses a lot of backhands trying to be offensive with it and hit too many short backhands and weak BH slices that Davydenko ate up.

All in all, a great match-up for Davydenko and he took advantage.

Kual Lumpur R1: Davydenko def. Harrisson 6-3, 6-2

Some pretty awful serving numbers for both with davy winning barely over 50% of serve points on first or second and was broken 3 times.

Ryan however was hardly winning points on serve at all including an abysmal 38% off first serve. He was broken 9 times in the match out of 11 games.

a win is a win for davy, hopefully he picks it up

ryan was also up 2-0 in that 2nd set and dropped 6 straight games

Too bad Ryan didn't have a chance to play his way into this tournament. Luck of the draw bit him this time. Glad to see Davy winning again though...he doesn't get much opportunity.

some nice shots in the rallies, but Davy's serve was :help:
He'll need to improve that if he hopes to go much further here.

Tough draw for the kid. Hope he's not turning into another DY, progress has been very slow for Ryno. Davydenko is always a tough customer though.

Davydenko served better in the second set. His focus should be to just get the serve in, to limit double faults. That's what he's done this season and why his seasonal first serve percentage is 70+ percent. Today he tried hitting big serves and missed and double faulted or hit horrible second serves.

The one positive that can be said is the serve isn't totally holding the rest of his game back anymore.

He was talking about Harrison. I can understand Ryan's service issues because he isn't an overwhelming server, the court isn't overwhelmingly quick and Davydenko's best aspect in his game is his return. But 38% on first serves is embarrassing.

Late 2009 Davydenko served a lot better than now. Hence why he had a purple patch then.
Yes but it wasn't his main game ...
