Yes, Chucho is retiring from tennis. He will announce it on Thursday at the Buenos Aires event. Massive forehand, always looked stones but he wasn't the strongest mentally losing in 2 Davis Cup finals. The Verdasco one was worse though/

Too bad he couldn't do it on his terms with the injuries, but he lacked motivation no point in carrying on. Now he can watch Racing and love it.

Top 120 from Feb 2001 to March 2010 (consecutive weeks). Buenos Aires final at 18 and 4 months, Sopot winner as a 19 year old.

Natural clay court talent, big forehand for the surface. Made the semis of Hamburg and blew it against Steps when had he made the final he'd surely have stopped Boredo from fluking his Masters.

Another one from the Coria/Nalbandian/Canas/Gaudio generation of Argentine talents gone. Sad.

Pity that his final years have been wasted by injuries

Was number 20 at best, very often in top-50, most regularly in top-70.

His best result in a slam was R16 in Roland-Garros 2005 where he beat Roddick in 5 sets and lost to ... Puerta.

I always had the impression that the Argentines had been too harsh at him about Davis cup : losing to Safin was just normal and Verdasco was also the favorite in their match.

Who will take over his role as the ultimate stoner?

Gulbis? He has the hair and a similar game.

In Buenos Aries he played his last ATP tournament last year and it was a good one. In my opinion an underachiever, very good technically player, it's a pity he didn't win one of those deciding Davis Cup rubbers.

 Good luck in your post-tennis life Chucho. I think He was an underachiever and
pulled some big chokes like against Ferrer in Stuttgart final and against Federer in FO but anyway He had a good career and a very nice game.
