Grigor's talent and variety really exposed Medvedev's limited game today. If Grigor had a bit more mental strength, he would have slams by now. When he's on and he's playing with confidence, he is a danger to anyone.
Grigor didn't have the luxury to play in retiring big 3 - Grigor's game in AO 2017 and in the semifinal match against Nadal was levels above Medvedev's win on US Open against stoned from the pressure Djokovic and above the final between Zverev and Thiem in 2020. Sometimes luck is playing a role but it doesn't matter really - such talented players are remembered even without GS titles.

Steve Weissman on a Tennis Channel preview predicted it was going to be a lot closer than most were expecting because Dimitrov had moved to the area age 14 to train at academies and was now living at a friends house with a tennis court, so credit to him.
It is great to see Dimitrov back in top form and he was also in excellent form at the recent San Diego open.

If Medvedev wins Moscow, Vienna, Paris, and YEC 5-0, he gets 10,290 points

If Djokovic skips the rest of the season, he ends with 9850 points

So the YE #1 is not quite finished yet, but Med would have to vulture crazy and Djokovic not to post for it to happen
I don’t think he will play that crazy to be YE #1. He said Novak deserved to be #1, even though he was dreaming about being #1.

Great win Dimitrov!!

Will his body hold up? That’s the question. He looked so drained out there and he has no serve at all.

But no matter, this is a big win for Dimitrov. Very happy for him. Can’t believe he won from 4-6 1-4* down. Insane Medvedev choke.

But Dimitrov looked good with the FH and BH tonight. Let’s hope he body can recover in time vs Hurkacz

Sure thing buddy not like Medvedev didn't dismantle him at US Open and got the likes of Goffin, Sock and Busta at World Tour Finals, he is the last player who should be complaining about luck because he had plenty, truth is he isn't good enough and matches like today where he won after being down and out had more to do with Medvedev himself losing his head completely, no wonder he got dominated in the first half of the match.

Del Potro beat 2 Big 3 players close to their best back to back to win the US Open, and Dimitrav's only career win against a Big 3 at slams came on the back of an injured Federer.

It's seems he has problems from last year. Even in 2019 he had e big tear in the shoulder muscle. So - he is playing with those pains and probably changes some of the movements on serving and speed in order no to hurt the shoulder and also the back - in AO this year he lost to Karatsev. And he had problems in US Open also. So ..what happens - happens - doesn't matter - he is playing good tennis and seems happy.

Yeah, people saying it’s like Dimitrov got Med exposed, but the truth is Med got himself exposed and just Dimitrov played his tennis comfortably. It’s not like Dimi pushed Med playing bad or something.

Also if Tsitsipas wins IW, Vienna, Paris, YEC, he gets 10,215 points, which is also mathematically possible to get to #1
Interesting. That means a male player reaching the world number one spot without winning a slam. That almost never happens on the ATP tour. Lendl did it so he would be in good company.

When you more or less lack any quality wins over the course of an entire career you scratch the bottom of the barrel for anything, at US Open when he outlasted an injured Federer, his tards pretended his win was impressive and not Federer limping for the last 2 sets. Today was an absolutely absurd choke and Medvedev ought to be angry with himself for how he lost his head like a junior player playing his first ATP match.

Very strange match. For some reason Medvedev went on a mental vacation when up 4-1 in the second. Started missing easy rally balls. Couldn't serve to save his life. Gave away the set.
In the third, Dimitrov played pretty much as well as he can. Medvedev eventually started to dig down deep when he realized Dimitrov just wouldn't miss, but by then it was too late. It was hilarious how tired Dimitrov was getting though, you could see how close he was to collapsing physically.
When Dimitrov had 2*-0 40-30 in the third they played another long rally in which Dimitrov was getting more and more tired and slow. He took a chance and managed to crack a forehand winner cross court. He got out of that game and that's pretty much where he won the match.

Great win for Dimitrov but expect him to crumble in the next match.

lol are you insinuating that Dimitrov is a superior player to Medvedev? No way in hell. Dimitrov has some talent but he's had a loser's mentality his whole career. He's the poster boy of Generation Useless.

No, I said that Grigor could have won more in a more favorable circumstances. But I can see that you are insulting him - player who has had great success in his career. Number 3 in the world and many others when the top 4 were in top shape. So, I can see in this board comment full of sour grapes. "Generation Useless" at 25 y.o. now will dismantle the nowadays pretenders...So underrated and offended - Milos Raonic on a limping leg destroyed Tsitsipas in AO - that is "Generation Useless" - some "professors" on a forum saying...

Woulda, coulda, shoulda. It's not like Dimitrov ever reached a slam final so who knows how he would perform there. But he's known for having a defeatist mindset so I wouldn't have high hopes.
Regarding GU: A few good wins here and there mean nothing when they can't deliver when it matters. You if anyone should understand that.

Dimitrov has a higher ceiling than Medvedev with his weapons, but the guy is a mental midget in big matches all the time. Medvedev, despite performing spectacular meltdowns at times, still has a lot more clutch in him. Their 2019 USO SF was a perfect representation of that as Dimitrov was the better player in the first two sets but ended up going home in straights.

Well, when he was playing at that age of Zverev, Tsitsipas, Medvedev he and the other guys had to pass through Murray - Djokovic - Federer or Nadal. That was his path in Wimbledon 2014. I am speaking about the game itself - Nishikori, Dimitrov, Raonic and many others - they played high level tennis. It is a whole different story now - now players can win a masters event. At one point Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and Federer were winning all the masters events and the GS - this term "Generations Useless" is so stupid...And not only them - many other players were brilliant and playing in unprecedented era of dominance by 4 players. From now on there will be much more winners and diversity in the men's tennis which is good.
